PORTFOLIO TIPS
Your portfolio is your "billboard", your advertising, a catalog of what you have to offer as a model. It should show ONLY the very BEST photographs. This is the place to be very selective. When you are just beginning, you will have photos - showing as many different looks as possible. Start with a KILLER headshot. End with an equally KILLER shot, can be 3/4, full figure, or something in between - as long as it's stunning. In between, show as many different looks as possible. Include a "figure shot" to show your figure to its best advantage. This can be swimsuit, aerobics workout wear, or even tight fitting jeans and shirt. It DOES NOT require nudity - it's best not to include any nude photos in your book - unless you are trying out for Playboy Magazine. Don't try to overwhelm with a large number of photos in your book. Ten to twelve dynamite shots is about right. As you progress, some of these photos can be replaced with "tear sheets" which are exactly that - pages torn (cut, actually) from magazines, flyers, anything that shows you have actually worked as a model. Again, use the best ones possible. The idea here is to demonstrate that you have worked, and have some experience. A "Zed" or composite card is a model's business card. This will have 3 to 5 photos on it - usually a stunning headshot, and a couple others (again, show different looks). It will also contain your measurements, height, eye color, hair color, etc. and a way to contact you. These are left with potential clients at go-sees, casting calls, etc. It's also not a bad idea to get some standard size business cards (2 x 3.5 inches) made with a headshot and contact information to hand out. You never know who you'll be standing in line with at the bank or McDonalds..... Seize any and all opportunities to promote yourself as a model.
