Frank Zane's

Mind, Body, Spirit -

The personal training diaries

Book review by Joe Weider,

Editor Muscle & Fitness Magazine

Knowing Frank Zane for over three decades, I have watched him develop into one of the greatest bodybuilders of all time. Being the leanest bodybuilder ever to win all the top titles: Mr. America, Mr. World, Mr. Universe, and Mr. Olympia, his 185 pound physique gave new meaning to the concepts of muscular balance, definition, symmetry, and proportion. He has the rare distinction of winning over Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1968 Mr. Universe, mainly because Frank's attention to developing the fine details of all the muscles of the body, even the little ones.

Frank has been a contributing writer to Muscle & Fitness Magazine since 1963, and in that time not only has he won the major bodybuilding competitions, he has also taught high school mathematics for 13 years (Frank tutored Arnold in college algebra in the early 1970's), earned a master's degree in psychology, received a California Life Teaching Credential, patented the Leg Blastertm exerciser, teaches bodybuilding at his San Diego Zane Experience Seminars, and has written and published four successful books.

In Frank Zane Mind, Body, Spirit, his fifth book, Zane presents a pioneering blend of workout information and personal growth psychology. It is so many things in one book--hundreds of workouts, aerobic training, nutrition, psychology, dreams, unique meditation techniques, motivational and inspirational advice from Frank's meticulously kept diaries dating back to the beginning of his 40 year bodybuilding career--all this is distilled into a 365 day by day progressive format anyone can use as an instructional guide to self improvement. It is difficult to describe Frank Zane Mind, Body, Spirit in a single sentence except to say that it takes bodybuilding to new heights.

Frank Zane Mind, Body, Spirit's most important emphasis is the interaction of mind, body, and spirit. It is more than you'd expect from even someone such as Zane, who has brought mental training into bodybuilding like no one else. Meditation, self-hypnosis, visualization, affirmations, dichotic and beat frequency audio tapes--all of this and more have taken him into the spiritual foundations of the human body, as he re-images the gym as both a physical exercise center as well as a place for personal transformation.

Frank Zane Mind, Body, Spirit expresses the beauty of the inner form or higher self and how to build it. Although it is packed full of sophisticated training information, at its deepest levels Frank's diaries are inspirational texts to be read for guidance and self-unfoldment both in bodybuilding practice and in personal life outside the gym. It is essential reading for beginners, as well as advanced bodybuilders of all ages.
