MY SMITH ANCESTORS

My Smith line is pretty sketchy. I don't really have that much info on them. I've traced back to Montgomery County Indiana on them in SUGAR CREEK TWP. and the trail just stops. It seems like the more common names are the hardest to trace.This is what I have on this family: The father may have been Nicholas Cornelious SMITH born ca.1800 in PA. He died between 1844-1850. The mother was Margaret??? born 1809 in PA. They had these children:

1.William A. SMITH born 1827 in Indiana. Married to a Sarah A. ???. Died 10-2-1894 in Lovington,MOULTRIE,IL. Buried in Newman, DOUGLAS, IL. from the book, "The History of Douglas Co, IL,1900" it states: p.115-Dr. William A. Smith came to Newman in 1860, where he was a successful physician for over a quarter of a century. He was a soldier in the Mexican War, and one of the charter members of the Newman Masonic Lodge and it's first worshipful master.
2.Catherine SMITH born 5-25-1828 in Indiana. Died 2-28-1898. Buried in Newman, DOUGLAS, IL. Catherine was married to a TIMMONS.
3.Henry P. SMITH born ca 1829 in Indiana.
4.James M. SMITH born 10-8-1832 in Indiana. Married 3-9-1871 in Douglas County, Il. to Miss Eliza Ellen POUND. Died 9-23-1898 in Sargent Twp.,Douglas,IL. Served and wounded in the Civil War. Was in Company B; 58th Indiana Infantry Volunteers.
5.Anna M. SMITH born 1-6-1837 in MONTGOMERY COUNTY INDIANA. Married to John D. FIELDS in 1858 either in Urbana,IL or Indiana. Died 11-29-1899. Buried in Newman,Douglas,IL.
6.Nancy Ellen SMITH born 3-28-1839 in Crawfordsville, Montgomery,Indiana. Married 6-9-1857 in TIPPECANOE County, Indiana to John Wesley McARTHUR. Died 10-3-1920 in Newman,Douglas,Il. Buried in the Newman Cemetery.
7.Issac N. SMITH married Hannah HANGER 17 Nov 1872 in Lafayette, Tippecanoe, IN. He served in the civil war and was a POW at CAMP FORD in Tyler, Tx.He served in Company G; 26th Regiment Indiana Volunteers.
They had 2 daughters: Laura A. Smith b.7/15/1874 Alta B. Smith b. 1/21/1877 (An Alta GUNN is listed in the papers so I think that's her married name) Isaac d. 4/4/1911 in Neal, Il. Hannah resided in Neoga, Cumberland, IL. on 4/25/1911
8. Susan E. SMITH born ca. 1844 in Indiana. Married a MIKEL.
