Dutchess County
Tombstone Inscriptions (4)

These listings are not to be considered complete. Although I have endeavored to make
them as accurate as possible, I take no responsibility for their accuracy.

I have endeavored to include inscriptions subsequent to the Publication of Old Gravestones
of Dutchess and/or Stones with inscriptions added subsequent to that Publication.

Shhhhhhh
You are entering the resting place of many fine citizens of Dutchess County!

German Church, Wutemburgh
(So named in Old Gravestones of Dutchess)

Remarks (from Old Gravestones of Dutchess):
“The ground east and north of St. Pauls Church at Wurtemburgh was used for burial purposes from the time of the organization of the congregation, which was in 1759.
In 1852 and in 1866 land south of the church was acquired for burial uses and in 1855 “St. Pauls Wurtemburgh Cemetery Association” was incorporated.  The following list is made from the stones in the original portion of the ground.  Those in the modern additions are not included.”

Ginny’s Inscriptions are from the “modern additions” and from the land south of the church and therefore believed by me to be not included in Old Gravestones of Dutchess.

St. Denis Church (Sylvan Lake)
Beekman Road
Hopewell Junction, NY

These inscriptions are from the Old Cemetery at the
East End of the Present St. Denis Cemetery.
The land for a church at this site was donated by
Daniel DeLaney who was the owner of an Iron Mine
at Sylvan Lake – DeLaney worked the mine with Irish
Immigrants he brought in. This was probably about 1860 when
an Old Schoolhouse was brought to the site & rebuilt as a Church.
Burned in 1935.

These inscriptions are not included in “Old Gravestones of Dutchess”
A shared inscription effort by Ginny Buechele and Judy Wolf
