History & Genealogy for the Fun of Learning about our Ancestors
January 2004 Update on the Juntunen Project
After
a long pause, work is now continuing on the Juntunen project for North America
. Several
items of importance are noted below.
- We are submitting articles about Finnish migration through Canada to North America to the Finnish American Reporter.
Our first article has been accepted for publication in February 2004 and
the second article has been submitted. The series, entitled Through
Eastern Canada, will use Juntunen family
information to illustrate the experiences of Finnish Immigrants arriving
through Halifax, Nova Scotia, Saint John, New Brunswick, Quebec City and Montreal,
Quebec. The many Juntunens that came through Canada often crossed the border
into the United States.
- We are planning on having a direct link to the
Finnish American Reporter, the monthly newspaper published by Finlandia University
in Hancock, Michigan. Currently it can be found by clicking
Finnish American Reporter
- We will be correcting and updating certain elements of the data
previously published in our newsletters from April 1999 through August
1999. Further research into original
immigration records has helped us remove some of the question marks included
earlier with the data. In a few cases,
we were able to correct information that was ambiguous earlier. The corrected data will be included in the
articles written for the Finnish American
Reporter.
The next issue of the newsletter on this website,
currently planned for later in February of 2004, will include further
information on current activities and announcements.
