A man dreamed he was walking along the beach with the Lord. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. In each scene, he saw two sets of footprints in the sand: one was his and the other, the Lord's. When the last scene flashed before him, he looked back. He noticed that at the lowest and saddest times in his life, there were only one set of footprints.

This bothered him, and he asked the Lord about it. "You said that if I'd follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But during my most troublesome times, there is only one set of footprints. Why, when I needed you most, would you leave me?"

The Lord replied, "My precious child, I would never leave you. During your difficult times, when you see only one set of footprints, it is then that I carried you."
