It is with a sad and heavy heart that I write this. Late yesterday afternoon we laid our grand old foundation mare, Casland Julie, to rest at the age of 20. While she had been experiencing some health problems for the past year and a half, we were able to manage them so that she remained sound and comfortable. This past weekend she started exhibiting signs of abdominal discomfort. It wasn't colic, but something definitely was not right. Sunday she stopped eating but the vet felt that since she was still drinking that we would be able to pull her through. Some other sense me to think that we might not be so lucky this time, that our time together was getting much too short for my peace of mind. Late in the afternoon, whatever was causing her the discomfort got severely worse. The vet felt that she probably had a tumor which had grown to the point where it was interfering with her normal internal functions. A short time later, the decision was made that the pain she was experiencing was too severe and that there was no hope of saving her so she was euthanized.

I was fortunate enough to share the last 10 years of her life and even more fortunate to have had three wonderful, intelligent foals from her. She was one of those big little Morgans - small in stature, but big in heart and energy. She was a joy to handle and exciting to ride. Some of you may remember her from the early years she spent as a Park Horse. Besides being on old show horse and a wonderful broodmare, she spent time on the trails and helped teach a new young friend to ride this past summer. She was the horse that introduced my husband to Morgans, the one whose good sense and intelligence made him a convert. She was a wonderful mother and often baby sat the foals. It's hard to believe that we won't be seeing you any more in this life, Rest in peace Lady. Thank you for leaving behind your wonderful children to help comfort us, we will miss you old friend.

Please wait with the others that have gone before you … until we all can meet again … on the other side of the rainbow bridge.
