Christopher's Birthday Party: - Thomas the Tank Engine

Christopher with his Thomas cake (11/19/1999)Christopher's party had a Thomas the Tank Engine theme. Tina made a Thomas cake which Christopher really loved. The cake was the engine and other painted boxes became the train and carried snacks for the guests. We also got a refrigerator box that we painted up to look like Thomas. We cut an opening in the back and a door on the side the kids could climb through. A box on the top made a cab that had windows the kids could look out of. Tina nailed streamers to our back fence and put up a four foot thomas banner that said Happy Birthday.

We sat Christopher up on a table as Christopher blowing out his candles (age 3, 11/20/1999)he opened his gifts so everyone could see and so the other kids wouldn't crowd around. But with each gift he opened, he wanted to get down and play. A friend of his from school gave him the "Flying Scotsman" train (from the Thomas set) and it was love at first site. We almost didn't make it to the other presents after he opened that one. He got other Thomas presents that are also his prized possessions now.

After the party, we gave him our big gift. A new bike. He loves it, but he doesn't want to ride it yet. Since he doesn't know how to pedal, he'd rather push it.

Christopher eating cake (11/20/1999)Later in the afternoon we went to a local mall where they have a huge model train display set up. They claim it's the largest in the Southwest. Christopher was in heaven. They even had working Thomas and James trains chugging around. James was very low. Perfect for Christopher's view. He'd chase that train back and forth, watching for it to come out of tunnels, etc. After I got him away from James, there was another set of low trains that he watched for some time. It was a lot of fun.

Look for even more pictures to come!

Food: His all-time favorite now is corn dogs. He can eat three or four servings in one sitting. He's pretty finicy about most everything else. Christopher isn't into sweets very much. He'll eat candy and cakes, but he doesn't crave them. Most of his halloween candy he tasted and spit out.

Cars/Trains: Christopher loves anything with wheels, especially trains.

Pokeman is a cartoon that's the latest craze. We won't let our kids watch it (and they're not really interested) because of the violent fighting.

  Computer
The fastest PC's now use 700Mhz AMD cpu's. Intel's Pentium III is now up to 600Mhz. Memory prices have gone up and are expected to rise more. By Christmas, machines may come with less memory (even as low as 32Mb) to keep prices lower. Microsoft Windows 98 or NT 4.0 are still the main OS'es. Windows 2000 should be available next year. This last year the sub-$1000 machines were really big. Prices were low, but processor speeds were still increasing.
(Our home computer got a new processor and a new hard drive this year (now a 233Mhz Pentium), 96Mb RAM, 15.5 Gb hard drive)
