Welcome! This represents the start of a long and very complicated search for my Native American Indian Ancestors.
1. Ferguson: It has been said by older family members many times over the years,there is Native American Indian blood in this family. Could it have started with the Marriage of James Ferguson and Judith Eldridge? Judith was a Bolling. They are said to have descended from the marriage of Pocahontas and John Rolfe.
2. Motley: Family stories say that GGGGrandfather Capt Daniel Motley married an Ocaneechi/Saponi maiden by the name of Sarey Pain in Pittsylvania County Virginia. Recorded history indicates that some of the members of this tribe was run out of the Tidewater area of Virginia to the North Carolina mountains after Bacons Rebellion. She would get a bit wild and brandish a tomahawk during her monthy curse, not a pleasant person to live with...so he was supposed to have said about her. They had about 10 children though, my Grandmother Julia Ethel Motley is a direct descendant. Research shows there was a Cherokee Indian family by the name of "Pain" in that area of Virginia/North Carolina.
3. Pryor: Great Grandmother Nancy Pryor, is said to have Indian blood as well. Her Mother was Mary Williams married to Matthew Pryor Jr. Mary's parents were Williams Williams and Judith Saunders(1/2 NDN). In the book "Cherokee By Blood" there are several listing and marriages for a "William Williams".
4. Many such stories on my father's side as well, he was of French descent, also inherited the blood of the scotch/irish as his Grandparents were McMahans and Byrd from the Tennessee mountains near the North Carolina line. Elizabeth Byrd was a descendent of Col Byrd from the Westover Plantation on the James River. This families bloodlines also connects to the half sister of Matoka or Pocahontas "Cleopatra's, daughter Neekita
