We lived right on the edge of town and across from us was a steep hill down to a mucky bog. I was surprised when I went back in 1991 and saw that Sunset Drive was "in town". The picture of the moose was taken on the way home from getting groceries so you can see how rural town was.

There is a picture taken out the front window that shows the nothingness across the street. While we were there, houses started going up across the street. They brought the houses in pieces and put them together like big puzzles. Everything was pre-fab. Mom took home movies with a crank-up 8mm of the houses going up. It is funny to watch the movies now as she filmed very fast and kept moving around back and forth to make sure she caught all the action.

We took a vacation while we were in Alaska and came to the lower 48 to visit all the relatives we left behind. Mom and Dad brought all their slides to show off their new life. We were at Grandma and Grandpa Kubert's place in Crete Nebraska with dozens of relatives. There was no room to show the slides so the screen was setup on the curb and we all perched on the huge porch and steps. Pretty soon we had a gathering of cars on the street and a group forming across the street. The screen was transulcent enough that the pictures could be seen through it. Crete was pretty small and rolled in the sidewalks early so this was a big event for a summer night.

While we were in Anchorage, Mom was the secretary/publicity director at the Anchorage Community Theatre. The big event was when Boris Karloff came for "Arsenic and Old Lace".
