For small drywall patch jobs such as this one or smaller, you can avoid all the sanding dust usually associated with patching drywall by using a wet scouring pad (used for pots and pans) instead of sandpaper.


To make coloured aluminum railings look new again when they have dulled due to age, use some car polish on them. I used liquid Turtle Wax here, and you can clearly see the difference between the dull left side and the shiny and deeper colour of the right side.
