Luray Chapter #436 News


1.  The Confederate Illumination was be held on Saturday, May 5, 2001 at 7 p.m. at the Confederate Monument across from the Luray Post Office.  View photos on the Confederate Illumination link.  The event was a success and honor was paid to all of Page County's Confederates.

2.  The Luray Chapter attended the First Annual Summers-Koontz Camp 490, SCV awards dinner on Jan. 20th.  A Certificate of Appreciation for our support was presented to the chapter by Commander Charles A. Burner.  Mrs. Elizabeth Shirley accepted the award.

Also during the dinner, Chapter member, Mrs. Jo Ann Burner was presented with a Ladies Appreciation Medal on behalf of the Summers-Koontz Camp 490 and Col. Waller Tazwell Patton Camp 1661.  Mrs. Burner actively supported both SCV camps by sewing flags, assisting in paperwork and with the reactivating of the Summers-Koontz camp.  To receive this award, petition must be made by a camp to the Sons of Confederate Veterans National Headquarters for approval.

3.  President Merle Hilscher read a thank you note from the Martinsburg Veterans Hospital for the Chapter's donation of personal care items and cookies at Christmas.
