Grin Cat

Just a little about me.

Trying to tell someone about yourself is difficult at best and perhaps impossible, so here I will try to give you the bare essentials. I won’t bore you with things like when I was born since it was in December of 1946 it isn’t important anyway.

I don’t know if you would be interested in the Bachelors and Masters degrees I have in Theatrical Production and Speech Communication from Indiana State University. It is a great college and the education I got there was first rate but then there are thousands of ISU graduates and great colleges and universities out there.

The fact that I have taught for 22½ years at Vincennes University is of little interest to anyone not living in Indiana or sitting in one of my classes. It is of great interest to my cats because my salary keeps them in cat food and treats and litter and toys and pays for the vet bills and everything else in the world that they (read I) think they need or want.

VU SealTelling you that Vincennes University is "A Comprehensive Community Junior College of Arts, Science, Education, Engineering, and Technology" and is the oldest institution of higher education “west of the Alleghenies and north of the Ohio” isn’t going to titillate anyone. Vincennes University was founded 1801 as the Jefferson Academy by William Henry Harrison, the 9th President of the United States.

If you are asking yourself what does this S. Whit person do at Vincennes University, well, I don’t like talking about it in polite company. When people ask me what I do I tend to try to change the subject because when a person finds out that I teach Public Speaking they stop talking to me, begin to stammer, turn green and suddenly remember that they have to go finalize their arrangements for a vacation on Devils Island. What is it about speech teachers and public speaking that makes everyone turn and run for their lives? I don’t bite and my claws are not nearly as sharp as a cats.

Phi Theta KappaI am one of two advisors for Phi Theta Kappa at Vincennes University. Phi Theta Kappa is the International Honor Society for the Two Year College. The VU, Zeta Psi chapter of Phi Theta Kappa is the oldest in the State of Indiana and we will celebrate our 50th anniversary in 1999. In the spring of 1998 the Zeta Psi chapter officiated at the chartering of the Beta Zeta Rho chapter at the Vincennes University Jasper Center in Jasper, Indiana. That makes VU the oldest and newest chapter in the state.

Is that snoring I hear? I know it is all rather mundane and boring but it had to be done. Now wake up and go look at some other things I have here. Just click on one of the links and you will be out of here but be sure to check back sometime because I’m not finished, I’ve just started.

Someone, I won't say who, asked if I would put up a picture of myself for the world to see, so for those of you that want to see it here it is a photo of me.

Please sign my guestbook.
