Hi. I saw your name on the nephkids list. I just joined it. my daughter Ashley is 7 and they thought she had ARPKD at birth. She does have cystic kidneys and kidney failure, needing a transplant soon, but does not have ARPKD - but Bardet-Biedl syndrome I am so scared of transplant! Maybe you would like to talk about it with me. Please email me if you would.

Kim, what wonderful stories of all three children. The girls are beautiful and Little Paul will always be thought of warmly. My daughter, Julie Anne (born 14 April, 1997), was diagnosed 2 weeks before birth with ARPKD. She takes Captopril and Propranol l for high blood pressure and is otherwise doing fine. She was born with a heart murmur, as well, which we have checked yearly but she still hasn't grown out of yet. Thank you so much for sharing your stories with us. You and your family are truly an i spiration to us all!!!

KIM I DO REALLY FEEL A CONNECTION WITH YOU. WHEN WE LOST ZACHARY HE WAS MY HUSBAND'S FIRST CHILD. WE FOUND OUT BEFORE THE BABY WAS BORN THANK GOD SO THAT WE COULD BE PREPARED IF HE HAD NOT BEEN DELIVERED AT A HOSPITAL WITH A NEO-NATAL ICU WE WOULD NOT AVE HAD THE MEMOREIS OF HIM THAT WE HAVE. WE HAVE A LOT OF PICTURES, WE EVEN TOOK SOME AT THE CEMETARY SO WE COULD HAVE SOME WITHOUT THE TUBES IN HIS MOUTH. I WAS THE ONE THAT HELD ZACHARY AFTER THEY TURNED OFF THE LIFE SUPPORT IT WAS REALLY HARD. HE AS SUCH A FIGHTER THAT THE ACTUAL TIME OF DEATH WAS 48 MINUTES AFTER THE LIFE SUPPORT WAS DISCONNECTED. THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE THAT COULDN'T DO WHAT I DID SO DON'T FEEL BAD THIS WAS A TOTAL SCHOCK TO YOU AT LEAST I KNEW BEFORE HE WAS BORN THAT THIS COULD HAPPEN . I DON'T KNOW WHAT I WOULD HAVE DONE IN YOUR CASE. MY HUSBAND STAYED IN THERE WITH ME AND SO DID ALL THE GRANDPARENTSSO WE HAD 7 OR 8 PEOPLE WITH US . MY HUSBAND ALMOST HAD TO GET UP AND LEAVE EXSPECIALLY WHILE ZACHARY WAS GASPING FOR BREATH. IT REALLY GOT TO HIM AND ME BUT I DIDN'T WANT HIM TO BE ALONE. HE DID THIS FOR ALMOST 15 MIN I TO WAS TERRIFIED WHEN I FOUND OUT I WAS PREGNANT AGAIN. WE LOVE CHAVA AND WOULD NOT TRADE HER FOR THE WORLD. SHE HAS MADE US SEE THAT EVERYDAY MATTERS AND T AT YOU CAN MAKE SOMETHING SPECIAL OUT OF EVERYDAY OCCURENNCES. WE KNEW THAT HER CYST WERE REALLY BAD BEFORE BIRTH AND REALLY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT SHE IS NOW A 3 YEAR OLD IN FAIRLY GOOD HEALTH , ALTHOUGH SHE CURRENTLY HAS STREP THROAR. WE AREN'T O ANY MEDS CURRENTLY OTHER THEN FOR THAT SEE USUALLY EATS FAIRLY WELL AND IS GROWING QUITE A BIT RIGHT NOW. WE FINALLY ACHEIVED 35.5 POUNDS SHE IS REALLY SHOTTING UP IN HEIGHT RECENTLY. I HOPE THAT YOU ARE ALL DOING WELL AND WE WILL PRAY FOR YUR FAMILY. KIM NORMAN

My daughter is 20 months old and we were told that she had ARPKD when I was 18 weeks pregnant. It was a complete shock to us because the doctors also told us that it was hereditary and noon in either side of our families had the disease. She currently i in End stage renal failure and we have attempted one transplant from my husband, Keith. It did not work and a nephrectomy was performed five days after the transplant. She was in University of TN Hospital in Knoxville for 22 days. In PICU for 19 of th se 22 days. She underwent five surgeries in six days, but today you wouldn't know it by looking at her. The doctors got to leave both of her kidneys in, so now they are working better than before the surgery. I firmly beleive that God touched my daught r in that hospital. We thought that we had lost her a couple of times. she developed pneumonia and one of her lungs collasped, it was touch and go for a about 2 weeks. I thank God every day that he did not take my little Angel away. we tried too hard o get her and we've been through so much for Him to take her now. She is center of my world and I love her with everything I got. I would love to hear from other families who can associate with what we're going through. I hope that my story will help o hers cope with this disease. Sincerely, Christy Samuelson

Wonderful page! The things you went through with little Paul and Alyssa really hit home because of our experience with Bryan. All our children are so special, I can't imagine how I would have felt if Bryan had died. I'm sure little Paul is watching ove you and his little sisters.

What beautiful children you have. I cried when I read about Lil Paul, I can't think of anything worse to happen, than to lose one of your children. I count my blessings as I have two beautiful girls both of whom have kidney failure, I love them dearly and would hate to be without them. I was glad to read about the transplant on Nephkids, and I hope that any problems you have are only small ones. I hope that her eye problem isn't serious and I will be praying for you all here in NZ. Take care, Elaine

Your stories have truly touched me! God Bless you your husband, and your precious children. I am 33wks pregnant and the doctors have diagnosed our son with the same problems you had. Prognosis has been death, but I do pray that isn't so. It is comforting to meet other people because before long ago I ever knew such a thing existed.
