About the Everglades Terrier Club

Dear Terrier Enthusiast:

The Everglades Terrier Club is a recognized regional organization founded in 1994 dedicated to the well-being of all Terrier types. Our Everglades Terrier Club has been instrumental in promoting interest in terriers in general, protection of the Terrier, breed rescue, and the effort to sustain breeding for function, type and integrity.

The word "Terrier" is derived from the Latin  "Terre" which means earth. Thus, Terriers are dogs bred to root out and kill vermin such as: badgers, wood-chucks, foxes, weasels, otters, opossums, rats, etc. Whatever the type, all Terriers must be: strong-boned, well-muscled, and robust.

The admirable characteristics common to all Terrier types that has earned them the love of so many fanciers is that indomitable courage and unwavering devotion to home and family.

Our organization has proven to be an important resource for those seeking information on their specific breed of Terrier. We have provided an important forum for the Terrier enthusiast to meet others who share their same interest. The club sponsors educational programs, social activities, and sanctions dog events in conjunction with the American Kennel Club (AKC).

Some of the educational topics presented at our most recent gatherings included: Canine Good Citizenship, Canine Nutrition, Canine Skin Problems, Canine Resuscitation, Canine Microchip Identification Seminars, Earth Dog Trial Demonstrations, the very latest on Genetic Testing, and other fun filled events -including a sanctioned All Terrier B-OB Match, Terrier-Day in the Park, BBQ, and Costume Contest, and an all Terrier Parade, just to mention a few.

Our club has attracted a spectrum of membersbip that includes noted professional breeders, handlers, judges, veterinarians, and other Terrier authorities, and of course, those who cherish their Terrier as a family pet. Our regular membership is open to all persons who share our love and interest in Terriers, who are in good standing with the AKC and those who subscribe to the purposes of the club. Whatever the nature of your interest, the one common bond shared by our membership is the very special love for this tenacious group of canines.

The Everglades Terrier Club has monthly Board meetings, a pro-active planning committee, and six interesting general membership meetings held annually at a variety of   geographic locations throughout the membership area making participation convenient.
