The History of My PageMy page began in May, 1998, a couple of weeks after we first got on the 'net. My uncle said to me and my sister (Gemma), "Why don't you start your own webpages? You can get them for free." Gemma started hers straight away, but I was a bit nervous at the thought that potentially millions of people could view my page. After some nudging by friends, though, I began.Amy's Home on the Web began as Amy's Cooking and Gardening Page, with a recipe book, gardening jobs of the month, and cooking or gardening links. I knew nothing about HTML, neither did Gemma, but with help from Gemma's e-pal Emma, and finding webpages such as HTML goodies, we taught ourselves. I surfed a lot looking at other homepages to get ideas, and I discovered how to 'view source' and learn new HTML codes. Don't worry, though, I don't steal things from other pages, I want my page to be mine, not bits and pieces from someone elses. I aquired a puppy in late May, and in June I decided to make her a page, and 'Jessie's Kennel' was born. I was now finding the title 'Amy's Cooking and Gardening Page' to restricting, and it was hardly a catchy name. Also, my HTML knowledge had improved greatly, and my page needed remodeling. I spent ages trying to think of a new name, but nothing I thought of was quite right. Mum suggested 'Amy's Cottage', I tried that, but 'Amy's Cottage' didn't suit me. Then my brainwave came! Amy's Home on the Web began, complete with a new, country theme. Jessie's Kennel was also renovated, and she was happy with the results. More pages were added, like About Me, Links (general), and my award. The recipe book was divided into sweet and savoury sections, and put into frames. Basically everything was jazzed up. My aim for my page is to provide something fun and useful at the same time.
