relate to each other in a family atmosphere and where they can experience love and a sense of belonging. The children are accommodated 2/3 in a room;
the older children have their own.

The developmental program: The home has a development program in place to support the "mission statment".

Physical care; Adequate and proper care is given to the children and their basic needs are fully met. The main meal of the day is provided by the central kitchen by a qualified kitchen matron to provide a good balanced diet. The other 2 are provided at their er separate "home". There is a full time medical officer who takes care of the medical needs of the children. Medical & dental services are provided by various service providers. There is also a part time seamstress who mends the children's clothes when necessary and makes their school uniforms.

Therapeutic care; There are two full time social workers and a part-time clincal psychologist, who in conjunction with the child care workers draw up treatment plans for each child. These programme are vital in order to enable the child to be successfully re-intergrated into the community. Acute problems are dealt with by a psychologist at Addington Hospital. Physically abused and sexually molested children go to Child Line for therapy.

Receation and sports; Sport is greatly encouraged as it plays a major role in the children's development and enhances self esteem, leadership and discipline. Dancing, is provided by volunteer helpers. Wrestling is a project provided by the Home for the childern. We have 7 children who achieved Provincial "colours" in wrestling. M.C.H. also had 2 boys selected to play rugby for KZN schools at "Craven week 2004".

Concerts and discos are arranged for the children's recreation at the Home. Sponsored outings are also arranged as this gives the opportunity to be exposed in the greater community.

Child care worker training; A lot of time and effort is given to Child care workers, equipping them for their task. Child care workers have recently completed the course "Growing Kids Way" and attended the workshop on "Minimum standards for children". The Child care workers also attend a yearly conference on the latest techniques on child care to improve their services at the home.

Academic programmes; A lot of attenion is given to this program. Child care workers and social workers make many inputs in this regard by liaising regularly with the schools. To motivate the learners sponsored prises are given by the Home to learners who excel at school. M.C.H. is proud to have produced a head boy and deputy head boy for 2004 at one of the local schools.
