The Chapman Memorial Tabernacle is one of the most beautiful and well-maintained churches in our community. It is located about just off Route 10 ,up Big Harts Creek, at the West Fork junction. When Harts High School was expanding its facilities in the 1960s, junior high classes were held in the basement of the Tabernacle . The Harts Tabernacle is named for L.W. Chapman. He perhaps played one of the most important roles in the church history. However, the church has had several significant persons involved in some aspect of the church : Rev.Oscar Dillon , Rev. Rosco Lacy , Rev. L. Sowards, Rev. Truman Stevenson, Rev.B.L Pridemore, Rev. Wayne Damron, Rev. L.W. Langton, Rev. Oliver Privett, Rev. Elijah Pauley, Rev. A.J. Rakes , Rev. Virgil Neace, Rev. S. M Mullins, Rev. W. M. Sperry, Rev. Woodrow Lawson, Rev. Rosco Bias, Rev. Andrew Adkins, and Rev. Emmit Riggs , Rev. Roy Adkins, and Rev. Arthur Fry and Rev.K. Mead. Although there have been,in the history of the church, many pastors with a variety of beliefs and faiths, the church has consistantly remained one of the most steadfast in attendance. The Tabernacle is a beautiful red brick church with a large basement. It has been the host for many funerals , weddings, and baptisms. It is one of the corner stones in our community. |
