Annual Broad of Directors Meeting - March 27th, 2005
The
executive director called the meeting to order with his
usual flair and business began. Meeting Details
- All board members were present and sober
- Taxes for 2005 are
$2,808 (1st half paid and next half in July)
- Dues for 2005 will be $850
- Insurance costs $870 per year (action item: BP to check with his agent on costs)
- Bank balance is $1,800
- GA said the original owner of the Flub Cadet is now the current owner with cabin financing
- Memorial weekend will be a laying party
- Action item: GA will check on replacement costs for the broken window (BP to get rough opening measurements)
- Action item: WA will check on getting gravel for the garage
- The executive director responded to the Knees Together Kitchen task force and recommended the kitchen as the major project for 2005 and the board agreed.
- Discussion followed on what the new kitchen should be like
- Action item: BP/SP to measure the kitchen and send to MA who will try to get design software working on her computer
- Contributions (in addition to dues):
- GA - $1,000
- WA - $500 (paid at meeting)
- SP - $1,000
- RA - $1,000
- BA - $500
- Total pledged = $4,000
- Dates:
- Cabinet building scheduled for the 16th and 23rd of April at RAs shop
- Afterthought: BA will check on a new lawn mower (action item)

Q. I live in Menominee and would like to know how my adopted city got its name. I have heard it has something to do with the men who go to school here since the university here used to be known as a haven for industrial arts students who were vets trying to become employable as shop teachers.

A. We did a little research on the Internet and learned the name of the town derived from the late 18th century when one of the early inhabitants of the town married a native woman. She could not speak English well and was heard to say one time "man no mind me". It seems these words were similar a word in the Ojibway language and when her husband became the first mayor of the little town he decided to name the town in honor of his wife's inability to control him.
