Annual Meeting of the Directors Edition

Greeting from Spring in NW Wisconsin!

Last weekend was the annual meeting of the  boards of directors of the family cabin trust.  After a feast the board met (at a secret location - details below).  Not much else to report from up in the woods.

The executive director called the meeting to order with his usual flair and business began.

 Ask Elmer

     Q. I live in Menominee and would like to know how my adopted city got its name.  I have heard it has something to do with the men who go to school here since the university here used to be known as a haven for industrial arts students who were vets trying to become employable as shop teachers.

      A.  We did a little research on the Internet and learned the name of the town derived from the late 18th century when one of the early inhabitants of the town married a native woman.  She could not speak English well and was heard to say one time "man no mind me".   It seems these words were similar a word in the Ojibway language and when her husband became the first mayor of the little town he decided to name the town in honor of his wife's inability to control him.
