DINNER OUT

A minister was asked to dinner by one of his parishioners, who he knew was an unkempt housekeeper. When he sat down at the table, he noticed that the dishes were the dirtiest he had ever seen in his life.

"Were these dishes ever washed?" he asked his hostess, running his fingers over the grit and grime.

She replied, "They're as clean as soap and water could get them."

He felt a bit apprehensive, but blessed the food anyway and started eating. It was really delicious and he said so, despite the dirty dishes
.

When dinner was over, the hostess took the dishes outside, put them in the kennel and yelled,
"Here Soap! Here Water!"

It's a sunny morning in the Big Forest and the Bear family are just waking up. Baby Bear goes downstairs and sits in his small chair at the table. He looks into his small bowl. It is empty!"Who's been eating my porridge?!" he squeaks.
Daddy Bear arrives at the table and sits in his big chair. He looks into his big bowl. It is also empty!
"Who's been eating my porridge?!" he roars.
Mummy Bear puts her head through the serving hatch from the kitchen and screams, "For goodness sakes, how many times do we have to go through this? I haven't made the porridge yet!!!"

The story concerns a butcher who went into a pet shop. It seems he fell in love with one of the seagulls in the shop. Alas, he had no money to spend, but the shop owner agreed to give him the bird in exchange for some of his delicious German Sausage. The deal was made. It seems ... he took a tern for the wurst!

Deep within a forest a little turtle began to climb a tree. After hours of effort he reached the top, jumped into the air waving his front legs and crashed to the ground. After recovering, he slowly climbed the tree again, jumped, and fell to the ground.

The turtle tried again and again while a couple of birds sitting on a branch watched his sad efforts. Finally, the female bird turned to her mate.

"Dear," she chirped, "I think it's time to tell him he's adopted."

My Gift To Jesus

I wish someone had given little Jesus a dog
as loyal and loving as mine
to sleep by His manger and gaze in His eyes
and adore Him for being divine.

As Our Lord grew to manhood, His own faithful dog
would have followed Him all through the day
while he preached to the crowds and made the sick well
and knelt in the Garden to pray.

It is sad to remember that Christ went away
to face death alone and apart,
with no tender dog following close behind
to comfort its Master heart.

And when Jesus rose on that Easter morn,
how happy He would have been
as His dog kissed His hand and barked its delight
for the One who died for all men!

Well, the Lord has a dog now, I just sent Him mine,
the old pal so dear to me.
And I smile through my tears on this first day alone,
knowing They're in eternity.

WHAT YOU SAY

A group of frogs were traveling through the woods,
and two of them fell into a deep pit.

All the other frogs gathered around the pit.
When they saw how deep the pit was,
they told the two frogs that they were as good as dead.

The two frogs ignored the comments
and tried to jump out of the pit with all of their might.
The group of frogs kept telling them to stop
because they were as good as dead.

Finally, one of the frogs took heed to what the other
frogs were saying and gave up. He fell down and died.

The second frog continued to jump as hard as he could.

Once again, the crowd of frogs yelled at him to stop
the pain and just die. He jumped even harder and finally made it out.

You see this frog was deaf, unable to hear what the
others were saying. He thought they were encouraging him
the entire time.

This story teaches a lesson...

There is the power of life and death in the tongue.
An encouraging word to someone who is down
can lift them up and help them make it through the day.

A destructive word to someone who is down
can be what it takes to kill them.
Be careful of what you say.
Speak life to those who cross your path.
The power of encouraging words... can go such a long way.
May your words be a blessing to someone today.

The Awakening

Ummm.... oh no, not yet.
He's stirring...
Not awake, it's too early...
Just 10 more minutes...
lemme sleep.

Sleepfilled, feeling his nudge
Ummm...
Keeping my eyes shut.
Hoping he'll fall back asleep...
Snuggling in closer to his body heat...

Ummm... another nudge
He won't let me sleep...
I know he wants me...
I know he needs me...
Oh please, just 10 more...

Tightening my eyes together,
refusing to wake up...
Maybe, just maybe...
Ummm... another nudge...
My body begins to awaken.

Stretching out against him...
feeling his body warmth...
Enough to heat a room.
His body hard, a runner's body
but huge, everything is oversized.

Opening one eye,
it's 5:30 in the morning.
How does his body clock know,
every morning...
Squeezing both eyes shut...

I shouldn't complain.
It's been this way from the beginning,
his commitment to only me,
his need of only me...
And my love for him.

Oh, there are others...
brief flings of admiration,
nuzzles and kisses and hugs.
But he always returns to my side,
with that playful look in his eyes.
He is such a tease.

Another nudge on me...
Stretching my body fully against his,
enjoying the warmth.
Flinging my arm over him
hoping this will quiet his needs.
But I know it's useless.

5 more minutes of wonderful sleep,
oh please.
Putting my hand on his chest,
running my nails up and down it,
curling the hairs around my fingers.

His chest, so large.
Everything on him is oversized.
He is so strong,
but he is so gentle with me and the kids...
My soft giant.

Pictures of him in my mind,
running, swimming, romping with the kids.
Such sheer energy and excitement.
The look of absolute joy in his eyes.
His smile of satisfaction when play is over.

Another nudge, I open one eye.
His dark eyes are piercing me,
watching for signs of awakening.
I shouldn't complain, he loves me so...
And now I have the same need as he.

Looking at his face through the fuzz,
those large black eyes, the small lips,
the nose that doesn't quite fit his face.
Adoring gazes my way.
The sign of urgency in his brow.

MMMMM comes from his lips
his voice deep even in the mornings.
A nuzzle on my neck now...
Ummm I know what he wants,
what he needs from me.

Deep, sleep-awakening sigh from me.
Raising my hand from his chest to his face,
and slowly tracing across his forehead.
Another deep nuzzle into my neck.
A small smile crosses my lips.

Oh no, he's found my ear...
His breath so hot.
Scorching morning breath...
I push him away playfully,
his tongue finds my neck...

I'm a goner now,
no longer can fake sleep.
Giggles in my pillows...
He is attacking me,
full strength, I can't refuse.

Our mornings start this way
it's his routine, of awakening me
with nudges, kisses and giggles
who could ask for more?

I succumb, I give into his needs.
Fully awake now,
I sit up in bed, stretch and
gaze adoringly back at him.

It's time to walk the dog.

The Vet

A man took his pitbull to the vet and said to him, "My dog is
cross-eyed. Is there anything you can do for it?"
"Well," said the vet "let's have a look athim"
So he picks the dog up by the ears and has a good look at it's eyes.
"Well," Says the vet "I'm going to have to put him down"
"Just because he's cross-eyed?" say's the man.
"No because he's heavy" says the vet.

UGLY

Everyone in the apartment complex I lived in knew who Ugly was. Ugly was
the resident tomcat. Ugly loved three things in this world: fighting, eating
garbage, and shall we say, love. The combination of these things
combined with a life spent outside had their effect on Ugly. To start with, he
had only one eye, and where the other should have been was a gaping hole. He
was also missing his ear on the same side, his left foot has appeared to have
been badly broken at one time, and had healed at an unnatural angle,
making him look like he was always turning the corner. His tail has long ago
been lost, leaving only the smallest stub, which he would constantly jerk and
twitch.

Ugly would have been a dark gray tabby striped-type, except for the
sores covering his head, neck, even his shoulders with thick, yellowing
scabs. Every time someone saw Ugly there was the same reaction."That's
one UGLY cat!"

All the children were warned not to touch him, the adults threw rocks at
him, hosed him down, squirted him when he tried to come in their homes, or
shut his paws in the door when he would not leave.

Ugly always had the same reaction. If you turned the hose on him, he
would stand there, getting soaked until you gave up and quit. If you threw
things at him, he would curl his lanky body around feet in forgiveness.

Whenever he spied children, he would come running meowing frantically and bump his head against their hands, begging for their love. If ever picked him up he would immediately begin suckling on your shirt, earrings, whatever he could find.

One day Ugly shared his love with the neighbors huskies. They did not
respond kindly, and Ugly was badly mauled. From my apartment I could
hear his screams, and I tried to rush to his aid. By the time I got to where
he was laying, it was apparent Ugly's sad life was almost at an end.

Ugly lay in a wet circle, his back legs and lower back twisted grossly
out of shape, a gaping tear in the white strip of fur that ran down his front.
As I picked him up and tried to carry him home I could hear him wheezing and
gasping, and could feel him struggling. I must be hurting him terribly I
thought. Then I felt a familiar tugging, sucking sensation on my ear - Ugly, in so much pain, suffering and obviously dying was trying to suckle my ear. I pulled him closer to me, and he bumped the palm of my hand with his
head, then he turned his one golden eye towards me, and I could hear the
distinct sound of purring. Even in the greatest pain, that ugly battled-scarred
cat was asking only for a little affection, perhaps some compassion.

At that moment I thought Ugly was the most beautiful, loving creature I
had ever seen. Never once did he try to bite or scratch me, or even try to
get away from me, or struggle in any way. Ugly just looked up at me
completely trusting in me to relieve his pain.

Ugly died in my arms before I could get inside, but I sat and held him
for a long time afterwards, thinking about how one scarred, deformed little
stray could so alter my opinion about what it means to have true pureness of
spirit, to love so totally and truly. Ugly taught me more about giving
and compassion than a thousand books, lectures, or talk show specials ever
could, and for that I will always be thankful.

He had been scarred on the outside, but I was scarred on the inside, and it was time for me to move on and learn to love truly and deeply. To give my total to those I cared for.

Many people want to be richer, more successful, well liked, beautiful, but for
me, I will always try to be Ugly.

Farmer Jones got out of his car and while heading for his friend's door, noticed a pig with a wooden leg. His curiosity roused, he ask, "Fred, how'd that pig get him a wooden leg?"
"Well, Michael, that's a mighty special pig! A while back a wild boar attacked me while I was walking in the woods.
That pig there came a runnin', went after that boar and chased him away. Saved my life!"
"And the boar tore up his leg?" "No, he was fine after that. But a bit later we had that fire. Started in the shed up against the barn.
Well, that ole pig started squealin' like he was stuck, woke us up, and 'fore we got out here, the darn thing had herded the other animals out of the barn and saved 'em all!"
"So that's when he hurt his leg, huh, Fred?"
"No, Michael. He was a might winded, though. When my tractor hit a rock and rolled down the hill into the pond I was knocked clean out. When I came to, that pig had dove into the pond and dragged me out 'fore I drowned. Sure did save my life."
"And that was when he hurt his leg?" "Oh no, he was fine. Cleaned him up, too." "OK, Fred. So just tell me. How did he get the wooden leg?"
"Well," the farmer tells him, "a pig like that, you don't want to eat all at once."

TASTY SALMON MOUSSE

A housewife was shaving several couples over for dinner
that night, so she wanted to cook something special. She
slaved for hours that afternoon and finally created a masterpiece.
Salmon mousse.

Just before her guests arrived, she caught her cat nibbling
away at the dish on the dining room table. She had worked
so hard that she couldn't throw the mousse away, so she
smoothed it over and served it anyway.

Well, the mousse was a hit. Everyone took seconds or thirds.
Proudly she stood to bring the empty plate out to the kitchen
and looked out the window.

There, next to the house, lay her cat. Dead. She had to
confess to her guests that she'd served mousse eaten by the
cat and now the cat was dead.

The entire dinner party rushed to the hospital to have their
stomachs pumped. The housewife, who hadn't eaten any
because she knew her cat had, lay in bed--mourning the
passing of her cat and fearing that the same fate could
befall her guests.

Then, the phone rang. It was her next door neighbor who said,
" I'm sorry about your cat. I should have told you that I ran her
over but I was just so ashamed and saw that you had a dinner
party in progress....So I just put her on your lawn."

You see, the place where I grew up in Central New York State was
serious farming country -- apple, dairy, and other fruits such as
berries were the biggest items. Well, there was one farmer, name of
Mayne, who consistently won the state prizes for the best milk and
milk products. He was quite successful financially, and his farm was
large enough that he needed a small helicopter to get around it.

One day, some officials from the State Dairy Board dropped in to talk
to him. The Chairman, his Assistant, and Mr. Mayne all got in the
helicopter and took a flying tour of the pastures. As they were flying
by, the Chairman noted that despite the huge acreage, many of the cows
were congregated in one pasture, whose ground cover was much darker
green than the rest.

The Chairman asked about this, and Mr. Mayne replied "Oh, yes. That's
part of my secret, you see. Some years ago I bought out part of the
land belonging to one of my neighbors, who was a fruit farmer. Anyway,
he'd planted strawberries, and I just let the cows eat them, intending
to replant later. Well, the cows that had been pastured out there
produced much more milk, and of higher quality, that I planted more
berries for them to eat, and you have seen the results."

The Chairman nodded, and said "I should have realized that -- it
makes sense: . . . strawberry fields for heifer."
