Activities
We are an organization whose goals are to provide aid to our veterans and
their families, promote patriotism, and make a difference in our community schools.
Buddy Poppy Campaign...Year Round.
Raffles, Charity and Support of the Post at All Times.
Easter, Halloween and Christmas parties for children.
Involved with Make A difference Day Program.
Standdown for Homeless Veterans Program.
Conduct Patriotic Art Contests at local High Schools.
Lead local schools in Americanism Programs.
School Scholarships, Cancer Aid & Research
Safety Program and Drug Abuse Program

Information
Founded in 1914, the Ladies Auxiliary includes
more than 767,000 women, age 16 and over, who are close relatives of VFW-eligible
veterans. The backbone of VFW volunteer efforts, the Ladies Auxiliary also has its own
volunteer programs directed at VA, state and community hospitals. The Ladies Auxiliary has
raised over $42 million for cancer treatment and research over the past 43 years. The
Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW Post 8661 in Bailey, Co. was chartered in March, 1981 with 26
members and has grown to 91.
Historically...
Fought for military pensions and compensation/training for disabled veterans
after W.W.I.
Promoted and gained the W.W.I Bonus.
Planned establishment of the Veterans
Administration in 1930.
Supported creation of the GI Bill of Rights
after W.W.II.
Led development of the national cemetery
system.
Lobbied for creation of the Senate Veterans
Affairs Committee in 1970.
Fought for compensation for Vietnam vets
exposed to Agent Orange.
Encouraged elevation of the Veterans
Administration to the President's cabinet.
Protected and enhanced the VA budget.
Preserved exclusivity of the VA hospital system
for veterans.
Gained presumptive health care for Gulf War
Syndrome victims.
Provided nearly $900,000 in national disaster
relief since 1964.
Donated $42 million for cancer research and
treatment over the past 43 years.
Raised $500,000 to provide 300,000 care
packages to Desert Storm troops.
Contributed $607,000 to the Korean War Veterans
Memorial.
Contributed over $200,000 to the Vietnam
Veterans Memorial.
Contributed more than $100,000 to the Vietnam
Women's Memorial Project.
Annually...
Provide more than $2.7 million in scholarships, awards and
other incentives through the Voice of Democracy Program.
More than 15,750 service officers handle over 235,000 claims
resulting in nearly $900 million in compensation.
Provide more than 8 million hours of volunteer service in
local communities valued at more than $97 million.
