Ryan Brewer Soccer Field

In memory of David Ryan Brewer
Killed by a drunk driver
May 10, 1979 to May 23, 1999

In 2002 The School Board of McLoud High School voted to name the McLoud High School soccer field in honor of David Ryan Brewer. The Mcloud HS Soccer Booster made a pleadge then to sale bricks with names and messages on them to raise money to finance the needed field improvements to our soccer field and to fund a memorial to be placed on that field in honor of Ryan Brewer. We also had carwashes, bakesales, garage slaes and worked in the football concession all fall to help raise the needed money. After about a year of hard diligent sales of the bricks and other works we are pleased to announce that the improvements (fencing, lighting and memorial were finish on April 1, 2003. On that date the new Ryan Brewer Soccer Field was dedicated and the first games of the season were played that night. The Boosters are proud to announce that they raised over 12, 000 dollars to fund the project. We sold over 280 bricks that now form a platform base aroun Ryan's memorial. The dedication cermony opened first with a flag ceremony led by the Oklahoma City Police Honor Guard. The first United States flag was then hung on the flag pole that we made part of Ryan's memorial. The Mcloud HS band led by band director Steve Tipton played the National Athem while . Ryan's youth minister Deek Benton spoke about Ryan and the positive influence he had on all who knew him. The OKC Police Chief spoke about the dangers of drunk driving and how this memorial will be a reminder to all who see it. A reminder about what happens in drunk driving crashes. The HS band and colorguard then performed "Miss Siagon" on the newly redone field. Miss Siagon was on of the performances that Ryan participated in when he was in band. The ceremony was then over and the games begain. To top off the evening both teams ( boys and girls)won their games that night. Ryan's parents and family were hugged by so many people that night that the sad fact of Ryan's passing and the need for the memorial were made a whole lot easier. Picture's showing the deication and memorial are below. The Brewers wish to thank all who worked on the field and the people who bought the bricks. If anyone wishes to buy a brick(s) the form and explanation about the brick are below.

Ryan Brewer was a student of McLoud Schools for thirteen years, beginning in Kindergarten and graduating in 1997. He was in the Gifted and Talented program throughout his school years, and was a National Honor Society member. He participated in the band program for seven years, and he particularly enjoyed his science classes. Ryan was a member of the very first McLoud High School soccer team. He loved the sport of soccer and played from the age of six until his death. He was a certified soccer referee and often helped his parents coach younger children. He played an indoor soccer game with his father just hours before his death. Ryan worked hundreds of hours with the Tri-lake Soccer Association and the McLoud Soccer Booster Club to raise money to build the McLoud High School soccer field. He was an example of good sportsmanship on and off the field. The field will be named in his honor and dedicated to his memory. Not only will this honor an outstanding student, but also it will be a reminder to all of the tragic consequences of drunk driving.
