Music : Duke Of Earl

This Is Duke's Page!

After we lost Sandy I swore I would never have another dog! But I should have known better! LOL!!!
One year after we lost our old friend, my husband was offered a 5 week old Chocolate Labrador puppy. He was unwanted cause the lady who had him didn't take into account all that is involved in caring for a puppy! He is not papered, cause his parents weren't bred under the right conditions, but he's a purebred Lab. Not that we care, cause we've never had a "papered" pet anyway! What mattered is that he needed a home, and my hubby has always wanted a hunting dog!!!
So, in November, 1999, we welcomed Duke into our family!

Here's my hubby, Joe, and Duke sleeping

Now, like any good 'puter nut, I went straight to the net to find out some things about this new pet of ours...Oof, did I ever find out!
Things like: Labs are considered puppies till they are 3 years old!!! Labs are "chewers", and not just as puppies, but throughout their lifetimes! They are really strong "people dogs", in fact, they prefer to be right beside you rather than half a room away!
Now, I really don't remember our other dog being quite like that. Of course, he was 14 years old when he left us, but he was a different sort of dog. He loved the kids, and I do remember him being under foot a bit, but not as badly as this pup!!!
Luckily, Duke is Daddy's dog. He and my hubby have a bond that is really strong!

I do like dogs, but I prefer cats. (I have 3 cats, all queens, and when my Mom came to live with us, she brought her cat with her, another queen.) They barely tolerated Duke when he was a little thing, but now that he is big they have formed a mutual respect for each other. My girls really have a ball when he's put in his kennel at night, cause it's like "girls only"!

I will have more current pictures of Duke up here soon...he's no longer the pup that you see in these pics!
