Will of Abraham Cook
Lunenburg County Will Book 1 1746--1762

In the name of God Amen. April 2nd 1748 I,Abraham Cook of Lunenburg County, being very sick and weak in body, but of perfect mind and memory,thanks be given unto God, therefore, calling unto mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make this my last Will and Testament, that is to say, Principally and first of all I give and commened my soul into the hands of the Almighty God that give it and my body I commend to the earth to be buried in a decent Christian burial at the discretion of my Executors, nothing doubting that at the mighty power of God, and as to what it hath pleased God to bless me with in this world, I give and dispose of the following manner and form.

I lend my well beloved wife Sara Cook all my Estate during her life and after her death my will and desire is that my datter Sara Cook have the negro girl named Hannah with her increase to her and the increase of her body lawfully begotton but failing of such Heirs to negro with her increase to return to my son Benjamin Cook and the Heirs of his body, also one feather bed that she lies on.

I give and bequeath to my son James Cook one shilling sterling

I give and bequeath to my datter Barbara Hester one shilling sterling

I give and bequeath to my datter Frances Hester one shilling sterling.

I give and bequeath to my son Benjamin Cook the land Plantation whereon I now live to him and his forever and for want of such Heirs to my son Charles Cook and the Heirs of his body forever.

I give and bequeath to my son Charles Cook my land on Sandy Creek to him and his Heirs forever. And for want of such Heirs to my son Benjamin Cook and his Heirs forever.

I give and bequeath to my sons Benjamin Cook and Charles Cook all the rest of my Estate after my wife death be it of what nature or quality soever.

I appoint my wife and my son Benjamin Cook my Executors to this my last Will and Testament.

At a Court held for Lunenburg County the 4th day Of July 1748
This last Will and Testament of Abraham Cook, deceased , was exhibited in court by Sara Cook, Executrix therein named who made Oath thereto according to Sana (Sans), and the same was proven by the Oaths of Richard Palmer and Thomas Gaffenshite, two of the witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded and on the motion of the said Executrix she having first entered into bond and acknowlegement the same--- certificate was granted her for obtaining a Probate of the said Will in due form.
