MARY OCHS

April 9, 1870 - November 7, 1941

 

Mrs Mary Ochs, nee Ott, was born Schoenfeld, Russia, April 9, 1870. She passed away November 7, 1941, at six a.m., having reached the age of 71 years, six months and 28 days. She had been ill for the past three and a half years, suffered from dropsy. Edema (swelling), often caused by kidney or heart disease.

She was united in marriage to Philipp Ochs on December 26, 1899 miss print should read 1889 in Russia. This union was blessed with 12 children, eight of whom survive. She and her husband and two children, Mary and Henry, came to America, November 18th, 1898. They settled in Rush county, where they lived until 1907, when they moved to Kearny county, and homesteaded, where they lived until May 1912, when they returned to Rush county. They moved to the town of Otis in the fall of 1932, where they made their home until their passing. Mr. Ochs preceded her in death January 27, 1941.

Mrs. Ochs was received into the blessed communion with the Triune God through holy baptism in the Lutheran church, and later was received as a communicant member through confirmation. She remained a faithful member of the Lutheran church throughout her life.

She leaves to mourn her eight children, who are: Mrs. Marie Salisbury, Wichita; Henry of West Bark, Bremerton, Wash., Manuel, of LaCrosse; Philipp and John of Bison; Mrs Susie George, Ingalls, Kansas; Mrs. Elizabeth Stockwell, Craig, Mo., and Alex, of Hoisington; also 25 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon, November 9, from the Lutheran church in Otis and interment was made in the Lutheran cemetery.
