Found in a newspaper article on a jeweler retirement. "Some of the more unusual things I have been asked to do: solder a spout back on a teapot, couples that want matching gold necklaces or bracelets solder on."

Well, my girlfriend has been wearing an anklet of some type for quite a while before I soldered it,  so she is used to the feeling on her leg. She is unaware of the difference since it was soldered shut. As for comments, she has had a few. My g/f always wears dresses/skirts to work,  so the anklet is quite noticable.  In addition, I must say she has great looking legs and she makes them stand out with short dresses and high heels. There is no way anyone could look at her legs and miss the anklet.  Another girl commented that she had been noticing that the anklet is always on her leg under her nylons. The girl said something like "Why do you always wear that anklet??" My g/f replied that she can not remove it as it has been welded on.  The coworker was at first shocked then fasinated to the point of asking about the process and how  she could get it done!

My permanent jewellery (waist chain ) is made permanent with a little god solder (normal soldering iron; solder from specialist jewellery craft suppliers)

My g/f two chains are about 1/2 inch apart on her ankle. One rides above the ankle bone and the other rides below. Yes, she wears hose to work every day, and although she has to be careful, there is no undue problem with snaging. Once in a while, she will thread her hose under the chains so that they are on top of the hose. One girl commented on that and something to the effect that now she knows that the chains are removeable...my g/f proved her wrong!

Hello
i feel into a somewhat unique situation. My Wife/Mistress found an ID Bangle that She requested i wear. i wore it but one day i forgot to put it back on after a workout. Mistress warned me not to do that again. i made a mental note not to forget and all was well. 2 or 3 weeks later i forgot again. This time Mistress made an appointment with the jeweler and had the ends of the catch soldered closed. She smirked and said "lets see if you forget it now". i knew She was pissed at me for taking it off but i did not think She would go this far. Well anyway. short of cutting it is not coming off and is snug enough so it will not slip over my hand. here are few pics of before and after.

Excellent. It is great someone finally did this. There are a lot of people that feel the same way, but no way to express it. By the way, I'm the one who wrote you about my permanent wedding band bracelet my wife wears (left wrist) and the Cartier on her right that you have listed in your site. Keep up the good work!

Even if I donŽt wear one myself, I like the idea of a permanent bracelet. However, IŽd like to mention a potential danger. If you wear any bracelet of gold or silver, be careful when working in the engine compartment of a car, especially if youŽre connecting cables for a jump start. If your bracelet should come into contact with anything under a) and, at the same time, anything under b) below there is a risk that the bracelet will become excessively hot or even melt.

a) The positive terminal of the battery or any exposed metal connected to it, such as the loose end of a jumper cable.

b) Any part of the body, the engine, the negative terminal of the battery or any exposed metal connected to any of these.

The reason is that even if the voltage of the battery is only 12 volts (or in some cases 6 or 24) it is capable of delivering great currents - which it normally does every time the starter is operated. The bracelet is an excellent conductor. If it is accidentally connected between the positive and negative terminal of the battery, the resulting current in the bracelet may become great and heat the bracelet. IŽve never heard of this actually happening, but it could.

This risk is very small. First of all in order for a bracelet to be non-removable it must fit close to the wrist which means that it does not come in contact with a battery very easily, and with most batteries of the type you talk about the terminals are too far apart for a short. However as a person who works with electricity/electronics everyday it is wise to take care with all jewelry due to the posibility of shorting.

My wife had ask me to wear a bracelet for her for a few years, and to be fair she has faithfully worn one for me that we had soldered on her right wrist. I always found an excuse not to wear one, until one day I had consumed several beers for a birthday/start of vacation celebration. When I woke up I found she had soldered the same type of bracelet, but scaled larger do to my being larger than her, on my wrist. This is quite a substantial band and is quite impossible to remove. I guess turnaround is fair play, but it will take some getting used to.

My husband and I found the Cartier Love Bracelets in a shop on St. Thomas Island. Most people may not know this but they make these in for both women and men. We were going to renew our wedding vows and decided to use these instead of rings. We said our vows on the cruise ship and used the screws to secure the bracelets on each others wrists. Then upon the end of the cruise, we decided to make them permanent and had a local goldsmith/jeweler use a drop on gold solder in place of the fastening screws. This was five years ago and we have had no problem with the bracelets.
