Notes for JAMES W. ASHER:



Military service records indicate James enlisted March 01, 1863, 
in Newton County, Arkansas, into 1st Regiment, Company F, 1st Arkansas 
Union Infantry Volunteers by Captain McCoy, for a term of 3 years. 
Private Asher is described as being 5 feet 8 inches tall; light 
complexion, blue eyes, light hair; age 35.  

November 7, 1863 thru January 1864 was absent sick at Fort Smith caused by impure vaccination;
July 1864- Company cook; August 29, 1864 was on a scout in Newton County; detached service with Capt. Vanderpool, Co. C;
November 30, 1864 was on detached service at Fort Smith;
Company mustered out August 10, 1865.
James died April 19, 1871 from lung disease, as a result from contracting the measles during his service in the Civil War.
