Will of Joseph Zengerling, died 1888

In the name of God Amen.
I Joseph Zengerling of Newark Essex County New Jersey, considering the uncertainty of this Life, and being of Sound mind, memory and understanding, do therefore make, declare and publish this my last will and Testament; that is to say First: after all my just debts and funeral expences are paid and discharged I give and bequeath to my daughter Catharine all my household [several words blacked out by tape] name, also all wearin apparells books [etc.] to be delivered to her after my wifes decease.
Second: The [blacked out word] and residue of my Property, Real and personal of every description I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Maria Zengerling for her own [unclear phrase, possibly beginning with "private..."]
Thirdly, I hearby nominate and appoint my [beloved?] wife Maria Zengerling to be the Executrix of this my last Will and Testament.
In witness whereof I have to this my last will and Testament subscribed my name and set my seal this 30th day of August in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and Seventy.

This is a codicil to the above last will and testament, I do give, devise and bequeath to [the phrase "my daughter" is crossed out] the lawful issue of my daughter Anna Othen [or Orthen], [share?] and share alike [the phrase "as above provided" is marked above the line here] provided that if at my decease Either of said issue be departed this life then the share hereby devised and bequeathed to said issue -- of if both be departed this life then the share of both is hereby bequeathed and devised to Saint Peters Catholic church on Belmont Avenue in said city of Newark to be used by said church strictly for the relief and maintenance of the orphan children of the parish of said Saint Stephen's [sic] Church. signature of Joseph Zengerling

In the name of God, Amen.
I Maria Zengerling, of Newark, Essex County, New Jersey, considering the uncertainty of this Life, and being of sound mind, memory and understanding, do make, declare and publish this my last Will and Testament, that is to say:
First, after all my just debts and funeral expenses are paid and discharged, I give and bequeath to my Children Frances, Joseph and char?ey [probably Charles], or their lawful heirs, all my property, Real Estate and personal of every description, for their own private use forever, to be divided between them equally.
Second, I hereby nominate and appoint my Son Joseph Zengerling, to be the Executor of this my last Will and Testament.
In witness whereof, I have to this my last Will and Testament, subscribed my name and set my Seal, this Eighteenth day of September Eighteen hundred and Eighty.
