IDEAS FOR SAMPLE LETTER
FROM COMMUNITY RESIDENT
- Say that you're writing as a community resident -- how long you've been here, why you came or stayed here, what you have most liked about the area.
- Urge any and all possible actions to prevent the construction of a Wal-Mart at the intersection of 228 and 210 – that could mean proposing County legislation or denying needed approvals for the developers.
- List the main reasons why you oppose the building of the Wal-Mart (traffic congestion, sprawl growth in one of the remaining open and green corners of country, destruction of existing businesses along the 210 corridor – check the fact sheets for more ideas).
- Add ideas of the kind of development you would like along 210 -- good sit-down restaurants, bookstores, whatever is your idea of good things we don't have - and note that this is the opposite of what Wal-Mart would bring.
- Close by stating that you look forward to an answer on this critical matter.
- Sign your name legibly and include your address.
