MONROE RESERVOIR BLOOMINGTON INDIANA
Monroe Reservoir is the largest lake in Indiana.  The lake is 10,750 acres and is bordered by 14,000 acres of land.  Situated in the hills of southern Indiana, it is surrounded by the Hoosier National Forest and Morgan-Monroe State Forest. Since is was built in the 1960's, it has become a very popular attraction to almost two million people a year.  It covers parts of three counties, Monroe, Brown and Jackson counties. Some of the more popular things to do are boating, fishing, hunting, camping, hiking, sight seeing and bird watching.

There are three camping areas which are located at the Paynetown and Allen's Creek State Recreation areas and Hardin Ridge, run by the U. S. Forest Service. Boat launching ramps are located at Salt Creek, Fairfax, Moores Creek, Pine Grove, Paynetown, Crooked Creek, Allen's Creek, Crooked Creek, and Hardin Ridge. In addition to that there is a car top ramp located in the upper end of the Moores Creek Bay.
Sunrise in the mornings is the awakening to another wonderful day. Watch carefully any you might see one of the bald eagles that are in the area.
A very popular time of the year is fall. The water is at it's clearest this time of year. But not many things can compare to the beauty of the changing in the color of the hardwood leaves that has been so graciously placed here for us to enjoy.
Sail boating is very popular. Since the lake is situated in a east and west direction, it catches most of the prevailing winds.
Even the cloudy, dreary rainy days have something special to offer.
