Amanda's Updates
Amanda told mom about a lump in her stomach. She went to the doctor and then to the hospital to have a CT scan and lab work. Her lab work was normal, but her CT showed a 14cm x 16cm cyst in her left upper abdomen. They think it is attached to her spleen. The doctors are planning on admitting her to Children's hospital on Monday and do surgery on Mon or Tues.

Amanda was admitted to Children's hospital at 7am. By 9am she was settled into her room (#602) with her IV in and waiting to see the surgeons. About noon the surgeons came and saw her and said there would not be an open time to do her operation until March 14. Needless to say we were disappointed and upset. Amanda's IV was removed and we went home to wait to hear the exact date and time of her surgery.

The surgeon has received all the information at his office, but was called away to do 3 emergency surgeries, so he has not had time to look at her information. Tentatively the scheduler in his office has scheduled her surgery for March 24. Only the surgeon can tell them to move the date up. So for now it looks like it will be March 24. We are still really disappointed and upset about the delay.

A little bit of a scare today. Amanda got short of breath, dizzy, and light headed at school. Mom took her to see her pediatrician. Her blood pressure was stable. Her oxygen level was good. Her blood count was also normal. Because of her shortness of breath she had an ultrasound this afternoon that showed that the cyst has not changed in size. So her pediatrician spoke with the surgeons and we should here from them on Monday. We won't hold our breath!

Finally, some communication!  The pediatric surgeon called today and told us that Amanda is not in danger and that she is scheduled for surgery on March 24 at 9am. It is planned as an outpatient procedure through laparoscopy. We have an appointment scheduled next week with the surgeon, prior to surgery, to discuss the procedure in more detail. We will keep you up to date.

Today we had our meeting with the surgeon. Amanda is scheduled for admission to Children's Hospital at 7am and surgery at 9am. They are still planning on using laparoscopy for the procedure. The surgery itself should take 2-3 hours and she will be in the hospital for 3-4 days minimum, as long as everything goes as planned. I probably will not update our site again until we are home from the hospital.  Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers.

Today was the big day. Her surgery went well and they were able to save her spleen. She has been up and walked the hall already and has text messaged her friends, in between naps of course. Updates to come later.
