My name is Marc Uhrey, callsign AB7PL. Among my interests are that of being a Ham (Amateur Radio Operator, that
is! Although some accuse me of being another kind of ham...).
I passed
the license exams in November of 1995 and received my Tech Plus license. My original callsign was KC7NXC.
I then passed the additional exams and was advanced to Amateur Extra on March 13, 1996.
I joined the Davis County Amateur Radio Club (DCARC)
and was asked to assume the position of Volunteer Examiner Liaison for
DCARC. (I'm now retired from this position).
I use a Kenwood TS-520 HF rig, and have a G5RV antenna mounted about 20 feet up in my back yard. Since the antenna extends from east to west, the majority of my HF contacts have
been north and south of my home QTH, i.e. Canada, California, etc. Unfortunately, I haven't had as much time to spend at the HF rig as I'd like (who does?), so I still consider myself somewhat new in the HF arena.
My YF, Lanae, after some prodding, studied and earned her Technician license, with callsign KC7WMO. She recently upgraded to Tech Plus, in anticipation of possibly being granted General Class privileges under the ARRL-proposed new Ham licensing structure. (This did not happen, unfortunately). We've had lots of fun with our 2 meter radios when we must travel in two separate cars and so forth.
The DCARC club is one of the best in Utah.
It's an active club with great officers and members. If you live in the Salt Lake City area, I strongly encourage you to check it out on the link below.
The DCARC sponsors Volunteer Exams on the first Wednesday of March, July, and November at
7:00 p.m. in Sheriff's Office, adjacent to the Davis County Justice Center, 800 West State Street,
Farmington, Utah 84025. The easiest way to get there is to take the Lagoon Drive exit from I-15. Drive south past Lagoon and turn left on Clark Lane. Turn right at State Street onto the bridge over I-15. Travel west about 3/4 mile to the Davis Justice Center. Enter the Service Entrance to the west of the main entrance. Find a place to park and go to the west door of the Sheriff's Office. Press the button, tell them you're
there for the Ham Exam, and they'll let you in.

For these exams, candidates must bring the Original and a photocopy of
any licenses or Certificates of Successful Completion of Examination
(CSCE's).
You should also bring a pen and a #2 pencil. (I've never
figured this out: If the #1 pencil is the best, how come nobody uses it?)
You may bring a calculator, although it is subject to erasure if it is
programmable or has memories.
Bring two forms of ID - one must have a
picture.
Please bring either exact change, or a check made payable to "ARRL / VEC".
