DARLOW

My Darlow line begins with William DARLOW. In 1898, I have him residing in Christchurch, New Zealand. I do not know of his birth or death dates. However, his child, Robert, was born in England.

Robert DARLOW is my great grandfather. He was born in England yet, I'm not sure at this point, where. However, on December, 25, 1898, he married Jane BROCKWAY in Hoxton, Middlesex, London. They had five children all born in New Zealand. Robert was one of the first settlers in Mount Pirongia and their first child, Willilam, was the first white baby born in the area. Robert was an industrious and hard working man who eventually became the head of the International Order Of Forresters in New Zealand. Their youngest child, Edith, was my grandmother. He died in 1940 in New Zealand. A good article about Robert and Jane DARLOW was written in The New Zealand Herald in December, 1966, called "A Long Journey From A Nikau Hut" which details the hardships of pioneer life in 1890s New Zealand.

My grandmother, Edith Jane DARLOW was born on March 1, 1890 in New Zealand. She married Duncan McCORMACK in October, 1924. They had three children. Edith was an active member of the Elizabeth Fry Society and the Rationalist Society. She was a very progressive thinking person in her time and was active in many pursuits. Edith died March 7, 1974.
