All the news that’s fit to toot!

Very Early Edition - December 25, 2003 - Volume 11, Issue 1 (Our eleventh year)

The tree is up and Bob shoveled six inches of "winter" from the driveway last Tuesday, so Christmas must be near. We will be hosting the Omaha Christmas celebration at our house this year before traveling to Minneapolis for the New Year Day's wedding of a family friend.

The big vacation this year was via car to New Orleans; Florida (to visit Vanessa and Mark); Memphis (to look for Elvis) and Branson (for some shows). Tropical Storm Bill, with its rain, blowing sand, and lowland flooding) accompanied Bob and Terry from New Orleans to Niceville, Florida. The soggy weather cut into some of the planned beach time but we enjoyed seeing Vanessa, Mark and their new house. We didn't find Elvis but we found his restaurant and passed by Graceland. The Branson shows were fun on July 4th and 5th. Terry enjoyed her stop at the Precious Moments Chapel in Missouri on the trip back to Omaha.

The Good Life Continues

Bob Burdett continues to be "retired." He helps his in-laws with their medical and transportation needs, plays tennis once a week and recently completed the first unit (Ex, Nm, Lv) of a 12-unit (120 weeks over four years) Bible study, sponsored by the Catholic Archdiocese of Omaha. Bob's only substantial project around the house, during 2003, was a repainting of the utility room. Bob enjoys "hanging" with Terry, Matt, the grandkids and Otis (the cat). He also tries to get to the YMCA several times each week.

Trinity Church Team Visits Costa Rica

Terry Burdett was part of a 12-person team from Omaha's Trinity Church that traveled to Zapote, Costa Rica from April 25th to May 4th. The Trinity team spent their mornings helping Zapote's Good Shepherd Church construct a new social hall. During the afternoons and evenings, the team worshipped and otherwise celebrated with their host families and the rest of the congregation. Terry was able to don a clown outfit one day and entertain some of Zapote's young people. The team endured the Costa Rican temperatures, humidity and daily rains. They were able to break away one afternoon to visit a nearby rainforest.

Terry is pictured sifting the dirt used to make the cement for the social hall walls. The team was able to complete about half of the project during their visit. Terry met many new "Tico" friends before returning to Omaha.

During November, Terry joined 9 others from Trinity Church to work and teach at a school and orphanage near Monterrey, Mexico. Terry is pictured with some of the friends that she met during her stay in Mexico.

Terry continues to work part time at Trinity Church. In her spare time, she works on her Spanish, crochets and enjoys computer games. Her next mission: Guatemala in April.

1999 Alero Totaled - Mohamed Charged

No one was injured late Monday night (10/13) when a car driven by Bob Burdett of Omaha was rear ended at a stop light at 28th and Dodge. Burdett told police he was returning from a Bible study when the car owned by Mohamed hit him. Both cars were towed from the crash site and subsequently totaled. The driver of Mohamed's vehicle was cited for "following to closely."

People In The News

Lisa Watts and "the grandkids" continue to live in Omaha. Lisa works for a podiatrist. She is a "Jill of all trades" (e.g., helps with patients, manicures, pedicures). Jayden is a third-grader at Harvey Oaks Elementary School. Jayson is a typical three-year-old. He likes to mix it up with his grandfather

Vanessa Kramis and her husband, Mark, live in a Florida panhandle town called Niceville. Vanessa recently changed employers. After she returns from training in Atlanta, she will detail pharmaceuticals (e.g., Advair Diskus inhalers) for GlaxoSmithKline.

Mark Kramis continues to fly a Boeing 757 out of Eglin AFB. Mark and his crew spent several weeks ferrying troops in and around Saudi Arabia at the start of the war in Iraq. He has since returned to Eglin and his "secret" assignment. Vanessa and Mark like the beautiful Florida beaches and the warm gulf weather.

Matt Burdett is a first year pharmacy student at Creighton University in Omaha. He was accepted into the university's four-year Doctor of Pharmacy program after successfully completing his first two undergraduate years at Creighton. Matt has moved to an apartment closer to the campus this year. Matt continues to work part time as a lead cashier at NFM (the Nebraska Furniture Mart). Matt spent several weeks this past summer helping NFM open their new Kansas City store. Matt also works in the pharmacy at a local Baker's grocery. He enjoys Creighton basketball and soccer, music and Nebraska football.

In Memoriam

Charles Grant Burdett

Born: April 21,1912 in Ogden, Utah

Died: May 6, 2003 in Las Vegas, Nevada

Heart and kidney problems took the life of Charlie on May 6, 2003. He was 91 years old. While his health had been deteriorating over the last couple of years, he remained "sharp as a tack" until the end. Charlie served in the US Navy during World War II. After the war, he worked for the Corps of Engineers as the Missouri River dams were built at Fort Peck MT and Garrison ND. He married his beloved wife Elizabeth "Betty" Senger in January 1948. She preceded him in death on August 24, 1991. He leaves his son (Bob), daughter (Marianne), 5 grandchildren, 2 great grand- children and numerous other friends and relatives. His daughter took good care of him until the end. He is pictured at Lisa's wedding in 1997. While the world little noticed his death, he will be greatly missed.
