Grandma Barb's trip to OK

Aug. 6-8, 99

Lets start with Thur. the day before the trip to OK.

I was delivering bulk mail at the post office.  As I walked around the car door I rolled my left foot under as I steped on the beginings of a downslope.  Of course I fell and yelled out a few choice words.

The man who was getting into his van in the next bay came running over to help.  He called the postal employee's to come and help also.

They did get me standing up and I could put my weight on my foot but when I went to walk it hurt.
I was asked it I wanted an anbulance but I said "no".

As I was on my way home I decided that maybe I should see my Dr. just in case.  I didn't want to be in OK and find out that there was something broke.
I called my husband and told him what was going on.  I told him that I was going to stop and see the Dr.  He suggested that I stay in the town I was in and go have it x-rayed.
I told him they had x-ray at the office I was going to.
I drove 1/2 hr back towards our place and went to the Dr.'s office.
He was not there but the nurse practicioner was and she looked at my foot.
She did tell me I had to go back to the town I just came from to get an x-ray.
I said "the reason I came all the way back here was because I knew you had x-ray here"
I was told that the x-ray department was closed for the summer due to staff shortage.
She also told me to stay there until they call her and she will decide if I have to go have a cast or go back to her off.
By this time my husband got to the Dr.'s office.
So off we go back to where I started.
Of course we had to wait.  (This has become my lot in life.  Waiting in Dr., hospital's, lab's, x-ray etc. :)      ).

When they were done with the x-ray she told me to wait for them to call.
I asked it it was broke, by this time I knew it was, and was told she couldn't tell me that.
I was told to go back to the Dr.'s office.
So off we go, in discussing the events we decided that it can't be that bad as I was not sent to have a cast put on.

Back at the Dr.'s office, I was told it was broke but I didn't need a cast just a boot to keep it unmobil.  I was also told I could go to OK with no problem.
I was given a "pretty blue" boot, opened toed even.  They wouldn't give me another to match :)             I asked.

Hubby didn't want me to go to OK like this.
We decided to see how much pain I would be in through out the night.  My flight was at 7:00 AM.
I called the airlines to get a wheel chair for all the gates.
So now I had to get through the night and see what happens.

I set the alarm for 4:26 AM and tried to go to bed earlier than normal.  I couldn't get to sleep.  My foot was not hurting I just usually go to bed later than this.  I got up and tried to watch TV but knew that I had to get some sleep.  So back to bed I go.

The next thing I knew it was 4:36AM.  I woke up wide eyed and so awake.  I wondered what happened that the alarm didn't go off.  Upon checking I found I set the clock for 4:26PM instead of AM.  I got up and dressed.  My brother drove me to the airport.  So off I go to OK.
I did tell my brother to tell hubby about the way I woke up and that the alarm didn't go off.
The airlines were wonderful.  A wheelchair was waiting for me and I was brought to the gate.  I was one of the first on the plane.
The flight to the "big city" was short and smoth.

Not thinking about it until time to land, being the first on also meant being the last off.
In the "big city" I was taken by cart to my next gate.  It was quit a ways away.  I wondered if I would have been able to walk it with a good foot.  I had one hr. between flights.
So off we go again this time to OK city.

I did e-mail the lady that was hosting this "Face to Face" to let her know that I boke my foot and
would be in a w/c.  So her hubby would know as he was picking me up at the airport.
As it happened she didn't check her e-mail until after he left for the airport.

As all the passengers were getting off the plane he wonder what was going on.  Until he saw the airlines people go down the ramp with a weelchair.
I saw him and waved as they weeled me up the ramp.

The attendent in OK weeled me all the way to the truck.  That was a suprise for me.  I though they would have me wait until he brought the truck up to the door.

Hubby and I finally got to the Campfire Girls Camp Grounds.  Willow, Quilt, Susan, and Lynn were already there.  It was such a joy to met Willow, Quilt and Lynn, as this was our first meeting.  Thsi was the third time I have met Susan and yes it was still a joy to met her again.

Shortly behind us came Dee from Tx. and her husband.  I had not met them before today.  Lynn, Dee, Kansas, Susan and I have known each other on-line for over 3 years.  Willow and Quilt about 2 yrs.

Kansas and her friend Sharon came in a short time later.  What a joy to put faces, voices, and real hugs with all these friends.

We talked and laughed and laughed and talked all the rest of the weekend.

On Fri. evening Willow directed us to a very nice restaurant were we continued to laugh and talk.  We also made a trip to the grocery store, then back to the campsite.  To laugh and talk some more.  It was well into the night when one by one we drifted off.

I remember rolling over and talking about something and the next thing I knew it was morning.  I think I fell asleep in mid sentence.

SAT. AM

Dee's hubby had made breakfast for all of us.  What a nice guy.  He made pancakes, sausage, OJ, and of course the all important COFFEE.

Lynn announced that it was morning and was kind enough to fix me a cup of coffee.  I was the last to wake up of course.  Many of the others had already taken their shower and were dressed.  It was early, for me anyway, it must have been 8:00 a.m.  (I did get up at 4:30am the day before to get to the airport.  Not that I would have gotten up any earlier if I was at home hahahaha)

By the time everyone was dressed it was getting close to lunchtime.  We ordered subs and they were delivered to the campsite.  At the same time the newspaper photographer arrived and started snapping pictures.  The reporter interviewed us for a good length of time.  She was very nice and patient as we all answered at the same time then laughed and talked some more.
