Welcome to 43 CES/CEF!!!

Newcomer's Welcome

It is a pleasure to be one of the first to welcome you to Pope AFB, North Carolina.  I was selected as your sponsor and would like to take this opportunity to pass on some information about the department and the local area.

We have one crash / structural station.  Our vehicles include:  two P-18, two P-20, three P-23s, three P-19, one P-28, one P-26, one P-24, one P-22.  We operate two shifts which work a 24-hour on/24-hour off, with a Kelly Day every two weeks.  Mr. Logue is our Fire Chief and SMSgt Jacob is the Deputy Chief.

Aircraft assigned to the 43rd Wing are:  C-130's and A-10's .  We also have a lot of transit aircraft to include:   C-5, C-17, C141, C-9, L 10-11, KC-135, and KC-10 aircraft.

Pope is a small base with numerous facilities for recreation close by:  bowling alley, Olympic size swimming pool, horse stables, hobby shops, and lake parks and camping areas.

The weather is not as bad as you may have heard.  We are 2 hours form the coast and 4 hours from the mountains. The winter season is short, running from December to February.  The summer months are hot with temperatures over 90 degrees during July and August.

If you are interested in continuing your education, there are a variety of Universities available both on and off base.

In the base brochure you receive, there is a lot of good information pertaining to on and off base housing.  On base housing will probably require a long waiting period and off base housing easy to find.  All of this will be explained by the Base Housing Office once you arrive.

HAND CARRY ALL of your IFSAC, AF, CPR First Responder Certifications with you to Pope AFB.  TSgt William McCammitt is the training NCO and will require these certifications upon your arrival.

If you have any questions, please write or call me.  It may be difficult to reach me by phone because we work shifts.  If you call and I cannot be reached, please contact the Assistant Chief for Operations at (910) 394-2464 commercial or DSN 424-2464.  We would like to know when and how you will be arriving in Fayetteville.  If you fly and we know your arrival time, we can have someone there to greet you.

Have a safe trip and we'll see you when you get here.

If there are any questions or comments please contact 43 CES/CSS, via e-mail or phone @ 424-2567
