I happened across this site as I was searching for my father's navy record. I completed a graduate school project that required me to complete a family genogram. Anything sound farmiliar? 1698 Magnus Redlon paternal great- great great- great- great- great grandfather born in Scotland, on the Shetland Island 1717 Magnus Redlon immigrates to the Americas and settles in the town of York, then the providence of Massachusetts, now the state of Maine. His descendents migrated from this area to Ohio, Pennsylvania, then to Indiana. My direct descendents settling in Illinois The spelling of Ridlon changed to Ridlen over the years after moving west. 1725 Mathias Redlon born, paternal great-great great-great-great grandfather. 1762 Abraham Redlon born, paternal great- great great-great grandfather 1788 Stephen Ridlen Born, paternal great-great -great grandfather 1826 James Belvile Ridlen born (6th of 8 children). Paternal great-great grandfather, Marries Sarah Ann Hamilton, descendent of Alexander Hamilton. 1873 James Ridlen born (10th of 10 children) my paternal great-grandfather. When my father and his older brother James, asked their grandfather about their family history or their ethnic heritage, he would tell them that there were "too many years between them and us". He instead told them he would rather talk about the cattle and horse rustlers that were in their family. My uncle wasn't sure if he was telling the truth or not. His first wife Virginia dies in 1931, he later marries Dorothy Gruver, she being 20 and he 60! It would be Dorothy whom became the historian for the Ridlen family. She would remain with and care for her husband until his death in 1964. She remained close to the family after he died. She wrote my father quite often after he settled here in the East. 1896 Herman Ridlen born (2nd of 4 children). My paternal grandfather. Served in the Army during WW I. He received a Purple Heart, as a result of being temporary blinded from exposure to mustard gas. After discharge he taught physics he later went to work for Western Electric. 1931 John Robert Ridlen born. 1955 John R. Ridlen Jr. born 1957. James M. He would not see his namesake, my brother’s son born or the wedding of his youngest daughter or the birth of her son.

I did a search on Ridlen and came to this page. I'm interested to know what the "Ridlen Oddities" are. I live in Sydney Australia and to my knowledege we are the only Ridlen clan in the land down under. Look forward to finding out who you are and how we may be related.

I think this is too cool. So you did this yourself huh! I knew you could. You haven't done anything in a while though. Keep up the good work and, oh ya, I love you.

Hey Bruce, Got your message last night (2/7). Spent all yesterday afternoon and evening finishing up my tile work, so I didn't have time to write anything last night. I like the new look of your guestbook. Keep up the good work.
