My Grandfather, Chales E Taylor came to Lemoore in 1902, from Carter County, Tennessee. He married my grandmother, Hazel Eunice Cottrell on April 14, 1910.
He went to work for the Lemoore Post Office delivering mail on a country route. He first delivered mail in a horse and buggy. His route was out in what we call ,the Island District. My aunt tells a story about that. She says that ladies that could not get to town would leave a note for grandpa in their mail box, and if they needed some thread or something, he would get it and take it to them the next day. He delivered mail there for 47 years.
My grandfather was a very quiet man that was always kind to everyone. I never remember him saying a cross word.He never drank, or smoked, and only drank milk if he had cornbread. He had an old Ingram clock that sat on his dresser that he had brought from Tennesse, and he wound it every night. When I was a little girl, and I would wake up in the night, I would just have to wait a bit, and the clock would chime, and let me know what time it was. The clock ticked so loud that you could hear it all over the house. Grandpa couldn't hear a thing though, as he was some what deaf. We still have that clock, but it did stop working after grandpa died. I guess he was the only one that could keep it going.
My grandparents grew and  canned all of the food we ate. Every weekend was spent in my grandmothers kitchen peeling something that she was going to can. Because we had live stock, she also bought feed and flour at the feed store. In those days, the feed came in pretty flowered sacks. She would go and pick out enough matching sacks and make my dresses.
She sat at the sewing machine when ever she was not in the kitchen.
My grandparents had five children. One, died at birth, and is buried in the family cemetery on our old ranch in Lemoore.
All are gone but live in our hearts!
