Welcome |
This page is a tribute to our dad, Albert Marion Cornish Jr. |
So get a cup of coffee, sit back, and read about our dad. Albert Marion Cornish Jr., was born in Monte Vista, Colorado in 1918. They came to California when dad was in grammar school. They settled in Monterey, California, where dad graduated from High School, in 1938. |
His Mother, Bertha Barrett Cornish raised dad on her own by taking in laundry. She was stone deaf, and so found working at home a better option. She was a great lady with a wonderful sense of humor. |
Dad worked at various places until 1940 when he went to work in a resturant for George Hazelton, and Vic Starrett. In 1945, Vic sold his share of the business to dad. Vic was my mothers brother-in-law. George took over the ice cream factory in the back, (The Wonder Ice Cream Factory) and dad ran the resturant. It was a small resturant for the merchants in the area, and all of dads customers were regulars that stayed with him for years and years. He ran that resturant for 37 years. The customers were there for the food, but mostly to joke with dad, and kid around.... Dad had a personality that keptpeople coming back. Most of his customers I had known since I was very young. |
AL'S GOOD EATS |
This was my Dad's resturant, on Washington St., in Monterey, CA |
When dad closed the resturant and retired in 1982, a band came to play, and the Monterey Police, closed off the block!! The place was packed! There were people of all ages there to say goodbye, and have one of my dads burgers for the last time. We sold out of everything that day by 2:00 in the afternoon. |
Dad and his waitress, Jackie. Jackie worked for dad for years, then she left and came back. I knew her when I was just a little girl. |
