Affinity

If you were an element of nature...

You'd be the sea

Tossing and churning, ever

struggling to break free of your

Barriers,

Crashing violently against the shore

White caps breaking this way

And that

Then dashing once again toward

The freedom of open waters.

If I were an element of nature...

I'd be a river

Winding fervently round hill

And dale, swift and true on

My course.

Changing constantly in an

Aimless attempt to

Break free

Of the land that holds me.

And a river seeks the calm of

Open waters.

And the ocean strives to gain

The shore.

And they meet on the beach,

Where the course of our lives

Has stranded us.

Each reaching out towards

The other,

Clinging to a friendship that,

Like the ever-changing waters

Of the earth

Will ebb and flow and clash

Together

While the sea still pushes

Landward

And the river courses seaward

And you and I, together, stand

Upon the sands of time.
