What is N scale?

Hi. My name is David and this is my web page dedicated to trains. Model trains that is. N scale to be exact.

N scale is 1/160th the size of a real train. In other words, if you put 160 N scale boxcars end to end, they would be as long as the real thing. Or one real inch equals 160 scale inches.

Z scale is 1/220th (and about four times more expensive than N scale).

HO scale is 1/87th or nearly twice the size of N scale.

Lionel or O gauge, the old three rail tracks, are 1/48th of the real size.

G scale (Garden Railroads or LGB) can be 1/22nd, 1/27th (narrow gauges) or even 1/32nd.

And if you want to really get confused, check out TT, On3, HOn3 and on and on...
