I want to introduce everyone to one of the greatest singers I have ever heard.
He is Mexican "super estrella" Luis Miguel. I first heard him sing about ten years
ago. After returning from a trip to Mexico my daughter couldn't talk about anything
but him. I decided if she was that excited I should at least give it a listen. I
was very impressed and my admiration has grown over the years. His voice has matured
and mellowed. He has the ability to put so much emotion into a song that it touches your
soul. In recent years he has released what I like to call the "Romance Trilogy".
Three cd's of romantic latin boleros. They're the spanish equivalent of what we
in the US like to refer to as "old standards" . Songs like "Somos Novios"(It's Impossible
is the english version of this song). With these cd's he has introduced a whole new
generation to these songs. Luis Miguel, however, is not just a balladeer. He can quite
comfortably slip from one genre in music to another without missing a beat. So if
you're not really a fan of love songs he weaves the same magic with upbeat pop
songs. This Grammy and World Music award winning singer truly has something for
everyone in his discography. If you're up to the challenge and stand unafraid to
listen to songs recorded in a language other than English let me make some suggestions
of what you might listen to in order to get a taste of this magnificent talent.
If like me you like love songs and ballads any of the cd's from the "Romance Trilogy"
will make you a believer. Those cd's are "Romance", "Segundo Romance" and his latest
release "Romances". If you're more into the pop genre I would suggest one of these
three cd's "20 Años", "Aries" or "Nada es Igual" which includes a song from the
Spanish soundtrack for the Disney animated feature "The Hunchback of Notre Dame".
I mention this particular song, "Sueña", because it was also written by Luis Miguel.
What's in the future for this phenomenal talent? There is an upcoming cd of
traditonal Mexican mariachi music. Not quite sure what that is? There are a few
examples of this genre on his "El Concierto" cd. My favorite of those is "El Rey".
I can't say enough about his voice and after recently seeing him live for the first
time I must say he also has a stage presence that will blow you away. So if you're like
me and believe that great music transcends language barriers, then go out buy a
cd and prepare to become a fan for life, because although he records many different
genres he only makes great music. He has truly earned all the nicknames he has
from "El Idolo de Mexico" to "El Rey de los Boleros". By the way he says he plans
an English language cd in the future so America start preparing now because
Luis Miguel is coming and he is
