This Is Our Tree

Climb on up

Family tree is just being planted on this page.

I am currently researching both sides of my family and my husbands family. Some of the branches have grown well, others are just beginning to bud.

Most of the family members I have identified have their roots in the South. Landing in New York but settling in Arkansas, Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.

The direct lines of ancestors I have found are :Adams, Allen, Averett, Batson, Boykin, Bridges, Browning, Darston, Dodson, Edwards, Farmer, Garrett, Hammock, Jones, Lee, Mackindree, McEndree, McClain, McClellan, McKamie, McKemie, McKamy, Mooty, Newson, Olive, Petty, Powell, Proctor, Reaves, Sharman, Strait, Towrey, Trammell, and Turner.

I will be happy to share any information on these families or look for information on ancestor However, this list does not include many of the relatives I have discovered. I would enjoy sharing names and perhaps find some family conections.

I recently began researching my husbands family. The McClellan family has been in Arkansas since the mid 1800's. The most notable McClellan is John L. who was the Senator from Arkansas for many years. Most of the family lived in Bradley and Cleveland Counties. The Reaves arrived in Bradley and Cleveland Counties in 1835 from North Carolina. The family traveled through Alabama and Georgia, staying for breif periods in each state. William Reaves is the earliest record I have have. He had a plantation in NC and left a will in 1790 listing 10 living children.

The Olive family came from England around 1700 when William Olive arrived in New York as an apprentice to the leather trade. He forfilled his obligation and in 1740 he had purchased 420 acres of farm land in Wake County, NC. "Biography of a County Church" is a book I am searching for that tells about his life. I have never seen a copy but many of the Olives who live in NC have copies. The Olives are preachers and teachers, and love to have family gatherings. There will be one in June hosted by the Tennessee Olives. There is currently a new book of William Olive's descendents being compiled by a cousin in NC.

John McKamie was living in Scotland in 1640 but moved to Ireland where his son John was married. Around 1690 the McKamie's arrived in Philadelphia. Three generations remained in the Penn. area and then began a move South stopping in South Carolina and Georgia. Most of the McKamie's now live in South Arkansas. Several families have changed the spelling to McKamie, McKemie, and McKamy.

The first Adams I have is Nipper Adams born in Prince George County, VA 5/24/1731. He married Lucy McEndree whose family was from Virginia. The Adams Southward movement was through Georgia and Alabama. Most of the descendants remain near Chambers County, Alabama. They were plantation owners and Mick Adams plantation home is shown in "Pine Logs and Greek Revivals". My gggrandmother Eliza Ann Adams moved to Texas after she married Benjamin James Lucas Powell.

Lucas Powell was born in 1696 in Brans (Writting wasn't clear)County, Virginia. The family moved from Virginia to South Carolina and Alabama. Several of the families moved to Texas where they remain today.
