REAVES FAMILY REMEMBERED

DESCENDANTS OF WILLIAM REAVES OF NORTH CAROLINA

Welcome to the reseach home of a descendant of William REAVES. You are invited to search the family names associated with my REAVES ancestors and contact me if you have questions or suggestions.

WILLIAM REAVES is first found in my research in North Carolina. In 1769 William REAVES and an unknown Timothy REAVES paid the County Poll tax in Dobbs County North Carolina. They were also on the voters list in Dobbs County in 1779. His land records indicate holdings in Dobbs County, Greene County, and Wayne County. While in Wayne County they were neighbors and friends of my wife's Lee family in Johnson County, North Carolina. There were land transactions between the families in the 1790's. We have not found any marriages between the two families until ours. The Lee's did not arrive in South Arkansas until the late 1800's.

FAMILY HISTORY

Migrating from North Carolina to Arkansas the Reaves settled in Alabama and Georgia. The family wills and land records helped to uncover the family history which I have so far. My direct line of Reaves came to Arkansas in the 1830's and settled in the farmlands of Union, Bradley, and Cleveland Counties. There is a Reaves Cemetery in both Bradley County and Cleveland County.
