All things Scottish

Welcome to my web page dedicated to one of my favorite places...

Scotland

My husband and I spent our 10th wedding anniversary exploring the Scottish highlands, lowlands and the Isle of Skye. I have fallen in love with the country, the people, language, music, history, and of course...the castles!!!

This page will be ever growing and changing. I will do my best to provide a variety of interesting Scottish stuff for you to enjoy. I have included a few castle pictures and a poem for now. Please do not use or reproduce any of my pictures or poem, without my permission. Thanks! Eventually I will add more links, pictures and additional information. Enjoy!

After our trip in '96, inspiration hit me, and I had to write down some of
my feelings and emotions about the beauty of Scotland. For those of you who
have been there, I'm sure you will agree with what I have written, and maybe it will bring back some fond memories for you. For those
of you who have not yet seen this gorgeous country...I hope this gives you
the inspiration to go and see it's many charms for yourself.

Scotland

For years a distant land has called out to me
in words unspoken, in it's music and history

So a journey I have taken, across land and sea
What once just a dream, becomes a reality for me

Was there such a land, so rugged yet fair
a country of beauty with none could compare?

A fairytale land of quiet splendor and majesty
With it's knights and princes and famous royalty

With castles and fortress built many years ago
of these were the stories I had longed to know

And I stood in awe of the towering Craigeivar
and the mightly cliff fortress of brave Dunnottar

I imagined all the people that had stood here before
the ones I had read about in books of folklore

As I walked along this garden path so serene
I let myself imagine living there as a queen

Or as a young fair maiden, in well-adorned dress
whose knight comes to save his damsel in distress

Walking in their footsteps, this home of theirs I share
While memories of ones gone still linger in the air

If I could hear the silent echoes of the earth below
it would whisper to me of their joys and sorrow

Was this the land that inspired within them so deep
a longing for freedom, for it's clansmen to keep?

The earth where I stand has a vivid memory
of warfare, bloodshed, and clan loyalty

Young lifeless bodies strewn across Culloden moor
was it land or freedom they were fighting for?

As their blood was spilled across this vast plain
their names etched in stone is all that remain

Affected by emotion, as the kilted piper plays
I wonder how life would have been in those days

This country's charm and beauty I'll keep in my heart
and of it's colorful history, I'll have become a part

From Urquhart castle and the deep Loch Ness
to the highlands and snow-capped Ben Nevis

From Brodie, Ullapool, and scenic Banchory
To Glenfinnan and the roaring Linn O' Dee

The barren Isle of Skye and the town of Portree
These are the images that I carry with me

As my journey nears it's end, this I must say to you
what I've wished for many years has finally come true

This land of enchantment, I so wanted to explore
And the memories I have are with
me forevermore

So thank you dear Scotland, for you have made me whole
and your lasting beauty I cherish forever in my soul.
