A Word about Awards

NOTE: Please feel free to copy the "A Word about Awards" text to your own page if you like. If you do, I'd love it if you'd include a link back to my site in return.

"RubyRed's Parlor" has now received quite a few awards and I want to thank each of the fine groups and individuals who have honored my page by bestowing the awards below. I encourage you, my friends and visitors, to take time to check out the excellent sites these awards link back to.

Why is it great to get an award?

  • It means someone liked your website and appreciated your hard work enough to give you their award.

  • It increases traffic to your website because the people who "give" the awards often have a page which lists the winners of their awards and will contain a link back to your site.

  • You get some pretty award graphics to display on your page *grin*!!

For those of you who haven't won an award for your website yet, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. YOU can win awards too!! It's a three step process. The first step is the hardest but the others are just as important.

  • STEP 1: Put a little work into your page. Think of it kind of like a job interview. You want to put your best foot forward. Not too many people are going to be impressed if your page looks like nobody (including you, the person who created it) cares about it.

It's great to have a theme -- but is it necessary to stick to a single subject theme? Maybe for SOME awards, but obviously not for the ones you'll see on my awards pages. The theme of RubyRed's Parlor is multi-dimensional. My theme is anything and everything that interests me.... put together in a warm, welcoming format that invites everyone to be at home and part of the family.

    • Make sure your links and graphics all work. There is nothing less appealing on a website than broken graphics or links that take you nowhere.

    • Offer original material on your page. Generally speaking a page that is only "links to other pages" is not award winning matterial. Let your page reflect you. Include original material, photographics, graphics, etc.

    • Put yourself into your page and let it reflect "who you are".

  • STEP 2: Apply for the awards! VERY IMPORTANT!!! Once in awhile someone who has an award to had out is going to accidentally stumble onto your page and say "This is great!" and if you have a guestbook or you've made your email address available, they're going to contact you and say "Congratulations, I love your site, please accept this award", but trust me... it's not gonna happen often. I'm still waiting for it to happen a FIRST time on my site.

  • STEP 3: Sit back and wait for the "award givers" to review your site and contact you with a decision. Remember, you won't win EVERY award you've applied for, but each person who has taken the time to reveiw your site deserves only the BEST of treatment. Please follow these rules of "netiquette":

    • Sign the "award givers" guestbook when you apply for their award and let them know that you appreciate all the time and effort that went into creating and maintaining THEIR web site.

    • Thank them for taking the time and making the effort to review YOUR website whether you've won the award or not.

    • If you win the award, be sure to link the award graphic back to their site. This will increase traffic to their website as well and is a great way to show your appreciation.

    • Take the time to really LOOK at the "award givers" website. If you don't, you are missing out on some really fantastic sites!
