This page is not only dedicated to my brother, David,
but to all who've grieved a loved one.

In Loving Memory

David J. Underhill

April 2, 1958 - April 5, 1999

Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, trust also in me.
In my Father's house are many rooms...I am going there to prepare a place for you
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me
that you may also be where I am.
John 14:1-4 NIV

To My Brother

This is a "birthday card" I sent my brother,
that years later I discovered he liked so much,
he framed it and hung it up.
(The italics are my notes after his death)

Think of the memories we share....

traveling, sites to see, golf courses, our children,
holidays, our spouses, living together, endless debates.

Think of the things that say "I care"....

the gifts, the cards, the times spent sharing.

This joy will not ever end....

even though you are gone now,
I know we'll be together again with our Lord someday,

Because I not only call you "My Brother"...

But also, "My friend"!

Beautiful but delicate, just like our lives.

My Prayer

My Dear David,

This world never suited you.
By my side throughout our childhoods,
both of us experiencing similar problems,
both of us always seeking,
always wanting to be better,
be more, make the world better,
both plagued by demons to overcome.
I always knew you cared,
you loved me, you LIKED me.
You could relate.
We could brainstorm and debate
and walk away hand in hand.

Oh David, I miss you,
I am so glad we healed our wounds.
Thank you for being in my life,
for being my brother and my friend,,
for sharing so much and caring so deeply.
I love you, now, forever and always-
and I look forward to the day
we are rejoined with our Lord!

This was the prayer I wrote into my bible the day of his funeral, April 10, 1999.
Part of me was buried that day with him too.

Your sister,
Debbi

Dave's Resting Place

A page dedicated to this peaceful place of memory.

My Journey through Grief

This page is a memoriam of my first year of grief without Dave, and the subsequent moments since that catch me unawares.

It is a work in progress, and slowly it'll come together.

Dave at rest
PLEASE NOTE!

DO NOT GO TO THIS PAGE IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO VIEW HIM AT REST BEFORE THE SERVICE ON THE DAY OF HIS FUNERAL.
It is a very peaceful shadowy face shot.

SPECIAL SONGS I DEDICATED TO DAVID

Please Remember Me
by Tim McGraw

An excerpt of the words to this song

Remember me when you're out walking,
When snow falls high outside your door,
Late at night when you're not sleeping
and
moonlight falls across your floor
And I can't hurt you anymore,
Please Remember Me.

Wish You Were Here

Chosen by his son for the funeral service.

by Mark Wills

Wish you were here,
Wish you could see this place,
Wish I could touch your face

Be merciful, O Lord, for I am in distress;
my eyes grow weak with sorrow, my soul and body with grief.
Psalm 139:9 NIV

If I'd Known....

If I knew it would be the last time that I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.
If I knew it would be the last time that I would see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and a kiss and call you back for one more.
If I knew it would be the last time I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would video tape each action and word, so I could play them back day after day.
If I knew it would be the last time,
I could spare an extra minute or two to stop and say "I love you,"
instead of assuming you KNOW I do.
If I knew it would be the last time I would be there to share your day,
well, I'm sure you'll have so many more, so I can let just this one slip away.

For surely there's always tomorrow to make up for an oversight,
and we always get a second chance to make everything right.
There will always be another day to say our "I love you's",
And certainly there's another chance to say our "anything I can do's?"
But just in case I might be wrong, and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you and I hope we never forget;

Tomorrow is not promised to anyone, young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance you get to hold your loved one tight.
So if you're waiting for tomorrow, why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes, you'll surely regret the day,
That you didn't take the extra time for a smile, a hug, or a kiss
and you were too busy to grant someone what turned out to be their last wish.

So hold your loved ones close today, and whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them and that you'll always hold them dear
Take time to say "I'm sorry," "Please forgive me,"
"thank you," or "it's okay"
And if tomorrow never comes, you'll have no regrets about today.

A thought:
When you were born, you were crying and
everyone around you was smiling.
Live your life so that when you die,
you're smiling and everyone around you
is crying tears of joy for having known you.

God's Garden

God looked around His garden, And found an empty place.
He then looked down upon the earth, And saw your tired face.
He put His arms around you And lifted you to rest.
God's garden must be beautiful, He always takes the best.
He knew that you were suffering, He knew you were in pain
He knew that you would never get well on earth again.
he saw the road was getting rough,
And the hills were hard to climb.
So He closed your weary eyelids, And whispered "Peace be thine."
It broke our hearts to lose you, But you didn't go alone
For part of us went with you the day God called you home.

A victim of Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia

After a While You Learn....

After a while you learn that love doesn't mean leaning,
That kisses aren't contracts, and presents aren't promises....
And you begin to accept defeats with your head up and your eyes open,
With the grace of an adult, not the grief of a child.
So you plant your own garden and decorate your own soul,
Instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.
And you learn that you can endure...that you really are strong.
And you really do have worth,
And that with every new tomorrow comes the dawn.
