Jedi Sleeps With his Folks

The second in a series of illustrated stories written by Jedi.

It was a cold night. Most people don’t think of Texas as getting cold, but in Fort Worth it gets cold enough in the winter to suit me. I had finished my last patrol around the house, making sure there were no moths I could capture. I had looked out the front windows onto the brick patio to make sure that my mortal enemy, Oscar, was not out there using my flowerbeds for a litter box. I had even taken my last look out the back patio door to see if the squirrels were eating from the birdfeeder again. All was quiet, my chores were finished, and so it was time for me to get to my well-deserved rest.

Some nights, if it’s warm, I’ll just sleep in one of my many castles and fortresses, and nap-sacks I’ve discovered around the house. But tonight was very cold, and it was almost midnight on a moonless night. What place could be warmer? I know! My folks’ bed. With their toasty down comforter no place would be better.

So I sauntered into their room, jumped up, and took my usual place right next to my mom’s sleeping form. Aaah - that was more like it! It was so warm and cozy that I started washing, getting ready for bed. This woke my mom up a bit, and I let her pet me a couple of times, then she drifted back to sleep.

After about ten minutes of washing, I decided to wash the other side, so I turned over and got comfortable again. This woke both my folks up; I’ve never understood why, but when I walk around on their bed they often don’t stay still. Dad rolled over and went back to sleep, but then mom did what I’d been waiting for: she got up!

Quick as a flash, I moved into the warm spot where she had been sleeping. So cozy! So comfortable! So diabolical! When she got back a minute later, there I was, snuggled down and fast asleep. As I was hoping, she hated to make me move because I looked so cute sleeping there. So she got in the bed as best she could, having to slide down from the headboard to get under the covers. I was so happy and warm.

Mom acted a little irritable the next morning. Humph! Wonder what was bothering her?!
