I came across your webpage as I was working on a paper for school I too was somehow devistated and touched by the shootings at columbine although I am thousands of miles away and do not know any of the victims personally I found myself taking the summer o 99 off work to be with my sons I asked myself what can I do to make a difference and this was the only thing I could find to be with my sons to let them know they are loved and are special. and now I find myself writing a paper on the victims at columb ne and asking how could we as a country let this happen. OK now to get to my point. you have left out two of the victims from your web page is this not in a way validating what the shooters were crying out? I have found many memorials and none have the ther two victims that are perhaps the two that the country needs to remember in the prevention of this from happening again. The shooters, they were little boys they were on a little legue team what did we do to them to cause this what did we not see how c uld we have hurt two little boys so deeply that it would force them to cry out in such violence? Thanks for the ear, I have not been able to talk to anyone about my concerns as most of the memorial sites are done by someone directly involved with one of he victims and I am sure it is too soon to look at the shooters as victims also to soon for them but not for us as a country I would hope they were not monsters they were little boys. With respect Tamara

Hey. I just wanted to say that I found closure in investigating this tragedy for myself. I found a really good article on this whole tragedy. I don't know if it will make you feel about the shooting like it made me feel, but it will change you. It put a face to the names of Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold. Like everyone with these types of messages, I don't condone what these two boys did. But I do understand. If someone would have saw this coming and did something about it, this would have never happ ned. I forget what article I found that said this, but I'll share it with you anyways. "...there were a handfull of bullies that held so much power that the entire school emulated them, or were too afraid to voice dissent." Think about that one guys. he true killers of Columbine were not Dylan and Eric, at least to a certain extent. The so-called 'jocks' of Columbine pulled the trigger long before Dylan and Eric did. Feel free to e-mail me about this any time. Here's a good article called Fatal Friendship by the Rocky Mountain News. www.denveronline.com/shooting/0822fata1.shtml

I am gothic, yes, that I know. But I am not evil, I am not a sick person as Eric. I knew him, I trusted him. Cassie Bernall and I had met, her and I also had talked to Eric. We felt sorry for him, and we wanted to give him a chance, and how does he thank assie? Shoves a gun in her face and asks her if she believes in God, when she sais yes, he asks why, but before she can answer, he shoots her in the head. That is gratitude for you huh??? Well, any way, I just want to say that I really like your site and think that you are a really good person for feeling so strongly about all of this even though you aren't really a big part of it. I still have nightmares about what happened to my firned, Cassie, what can I do to stop them? I really wish I could have her back.

To Columbine High School and the surrounding community: I am deeply sorry for your losses, and I pray that you may somehow find comfort and closure. I commend your community for being so supportive of each other... just from what I've seen and heard, everyone is holding each other up and looking out for one a other, and it's so important to care for each other at a time like this, when everything seems to not make any sense. It probably never will. I, as a teacher, was also deeply saddened by the incident and I still search for answers I won't ever have. The best I can do is pray that we as a society can somehow heal ourselves and stop the hate. Again, my condolences for your losses. Sincerely, Suzanne J. S. Romano New Castle, Delaware

We should all take this tragedy as a big neon sign that many of our youth are in trouble - they feel alone, sad, unwanted or unloved. I am sure that these feelings are not this generation's alone... I am sure that all generations have felt these feelings in their own youth. How did they deal with them? How did they get through the tough times they all faced to some degree as teenagers? Why did they not turn to violence as a way out or as a way to make a point? The blame does not lie only with the pare ts or only with the teachers or others in that community who "should have seen the signs." The blame lies with each of us who turns a deaf ear to a kid who cries out for attention, reasonable discipline and especially love and acceptance. I was picked on... and hurt... and turned out of the "cool" groups in my youth. But I had a strong sense of self-worth built in me by my parents and my extended family. I had two or three teachers who reached out to me. I found other kids like me who were also pick d on and built friendships with them. I got through it ok - and am now a stronger person for my experiences. But not all kids are as lucky as I was to find these people. It is up to us to raise our kids to be supportive and kind. They must be taught t understand the value of all people - large or small, ugly or beautiful, rich or poor, black or white. They must be taught to accept others for who they are - not what they wear, what music they like, or who they hang out with. Children who pick on othe children have been taught that it's ok to express their insecurities in negative ways. Children who respond to being picked on by becoming violent have not been taught how to express their horrible feelings- they have not been supported enough by those around them. That includes not only parents, family, teachers - but also other kids, community members - society at large. A society of which we are all a part. Take from this tragedy the opportunity to look at those around you with open eyes. To exam ne your own behavior. Be sure to remember that what you say and how you behave affects all those around you. Remember that once you say something - it can never be taken back. Try to accept people for what they are and who they are - don't try to make hem into something else that better suits you. If you can't be accepting, then stay away - don't be cruel. You gain nothing and only spread negativity. Ask yourself why do I want to behave this way? Who gains from it? The honest answer is no one. We all need to respect one another. And I include myself in these admonishions. It is not enough to say that I am sorry or that my thoughts are with those who have lost loved ones in this. All I can do is change myself for the better - to take responsibi ity for my own actions and deeds. If we all do our part, this tragedy can mean something - it can mean we have seen the darkest days and we have done something to improve them.
