My Home Town-Palestine, Texas My name is Sharon HERRINGTON, a native & resident of , ANDERSON COUNTY,
TEXAS, home of THE DOGWOOD TRAILS, THE HOT PEPPER FESTIVAL, TEXAS STATE
RAILROAD, and a few other things. Palestine, 11 miles east of the Trinity River and the
once thriving old riverport of , was established as the county seat in 1846. Most
of my ancestors settled around here between 1851 and 1860, coming from Alabama, Georgia,
Mississippi, South Carolina and Tennessee. No wonder I sound like a Mississippi Magnolia Blossom!
Le Menu The is beneath this text area. You can find almost everything by just clicking on the links you see in this section, many of which are shown as "cursive" text. I placed the Menu centrally in case you get lost. One of my PET PEEVES is having to wait for the main page to reload when I return from another page to get to the menu, so I installed NAVIGATION BARS on all my pages to make it easy for everyone to navigate to ANY page from ANY page. The example beneath isn't operational but you get the idea.

Profession I am an accountant by profession although not currently active. I spent 10 years in public
accounting and 10 years in private accounting. That should be enough for one lifetime. (grin)
All America lies at the end of the wilderness road, and our past is not a dead past, but
still lives in us. Our forefathers had civilization inside themselves, the wild outside.
We live in the civilization they created, but within us the wilderness still lingers.
What they dreamed, we live, and what they lived, we dream.

GENEALOGY and COMPUTERS are among my major interests. The GENEALOGY
section consists of my AHNENTAFEL CHART, PEDIGREE CHARTS, FAMILY GROUP
SHEETS, a SURNAME LIST, a partial list of my personal GENEALOGY LIBRARY,
a number of CHARTS OF RELATIONSHIPS, some CENSUS RECORDS, DEED & WILL
RECORDS, TAX RECORDS, and several special Descendancy Charts, as noted below.
The HARRINGTON DESCENDANCY CHART (below) is one of my special projects.
SOME of the surnames I am researching are: HARRINGTON, Baker, Blackburn, Braswell, Buckalew, Burt, Calvit, Cantrell, Carraway, CELY, Cole, COOK, Cording, Cox, Davis,
DOUTHIT, Early, ELROD, Evans, Foster, FREEMAN, Harmon, Harpool, Hart, Hawkins,
Higdon, Howard, Hoyter, Hurd, Martin, Moon, Moore, Murphy, Outlaw, Pickle, Poe, Reeves, RICHARDSON, Rogers, Rountree, Scott, Slaughter, Soelle, Staunton, Stokes, TARVER,
Terrell, Waddell, Wainscott, Welborn, West, Willingham. My "MOST WANTED" bounty poster is the parentage of my great-great-great grandfather THOMAS HERRINGTON, born 1787 South Carolina. He is "probably" the Thomas Herrington who was enumerated in the 1810 Amite Co, MS census. He served in the War of 1812 Battle of New Orleans from Marion County, Mississippi, muster rolls. He paid taxes in Lawrence Co, MS in the 1820's, resided in Rankin Co, MS 1830-1833, Scott Co, MS 1838-1851, moved to Anderson Co, Texas in 1851. Family tradition says he and his son, WILLIAM HERRINGTON b. 1817 MS, came to Texas via the steamwheeler "Robert E. Lee" down the Mississippi to New Orleans, to Matagorda Bay, then overland by wagons to Anderson County, Texas.
My FREEMAN line goes back to JOHN FREEMAN born circa 1650, who appeared 1673 in Norfolk Co, Virginia. Information on this lineage may be found in the following book: JOHN FREEMAN of NORFOLK COUNTY, VIRGINIA: His Descendants in North Carolina and Virginia, by Merrill Hill Mosher, Heritage Books, Inc, 1994. My branch of this family picks up with JOSIAH FREEMAN (son of WILLIAM FREEMAN who died 1802 Surry Co, NC) in CLARKE COUNTY, GEORGIA, whose son, JOHN (JACK) FREEMAN, moved to Anderson County, Texas, before 1860 from TUSCALOOSA, ALABAMA.
My ELROD line goes back to JOHAN DIETER ELROD who sailed to America from Rotterdam via London in 1709 after the coldest weather in the history of the German Rhineland, part of the PALATINE immigration. He first appears in the New York Hudson Valley, and then moved to Delaware. My branch, children of ELIAS FRANKLIN ELROD and MARY HOWARD DOUTHIT, moved to Anderson County, Texas, from ANDERSON COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA, before 1860.

Guide to the Descendants of Robert & Tabitha Green HILL
Descendants of John WILLINGHAM born c1660 I'm still plugging along using the old MSDOS version 2.31 of P.A.F. as my genealogy program,
but I'm running Win95 at 166mhz on this Micron Millennia Pentium & 33.6 baud on a US
Robotics modem, so I guess I'm not a total ole' mossback. :-) I still have my old 486-33
computer too, and use it to run MSDOS programs, mainly my PAF database.
Genealogy Mail Lists I am subscribed to about 20+ genealogy mail lists. I recommend the following URLs to find out how to subscribe to almost every available state, county or surname-specific list.

Animal Lover I have a very spoiled named who monitors
my every step. (grin) I think she really is in desperate need of Obedience School but I
(ahem) can't seem to leave the computer long enough to fit it into my agenda.
Book Lover I LOVE to read. My bookcases are overflowing with books of all kinds including quite
a few GENEALOGY BOOKS. Books are stacked everywhere around here. One of these
days I gotta get inspired to organize all these stacks of files and stuff. If that sounds
like a "Tomorrow at Tara" kind of deal, well... is one of my
FAVORITE BOOKS.:-)
Graphics Lover Since I love graphics, this site could not be complete without a bunch of links to Great Graphics Sites. I think I have over 500mb of clip art stored on one of my hard drives.
I've written about 8 websites for myself and my friends and learned a lot in the process.

Miscellaneous The section is a collection of backgrounds and buttons that I made while
playing around learning to use Paint Shop Pro. If I get industrious maybe I'll make some
better ones. The section is a collection of links to websites which have a lot of
useful information on the subject.I also enjoy football. Check out my .

I have always loved horses and unicorns. This beautiful background and accompanying graphic comes from Fantasyland Graphics, in itself a feast of enchantment. Click on the logo to visit this site. This site has absolutely beautiful backgrounds, as do so many others. These artists deserve a lot of praise for the time they have devoted to their sites and the beauty they have created for us.
